Probably near 50 yrs ago I worked in construction. Most people don't realize the amount of shingles that come off roofs. Today they usually rent a dumpster. Back then it wasn't an option. So a quick trick that worked back then was one using a tilt trailer. Even then it wasn't necessary but helped. Before loading the trailer use a large tire and place it laying down in the front of the trailer. Take a chain and fasten it to the tire. Then run the chain along the floor of the trailer and past the tailgate or end of the trailer. Then load the trailer. At that time it was shingles but I would think it would work with other stuff. Anyway at the dump we hooked the chain to a non removable item or a bull dozer and drove away pulling majority of the debris out. Afterwards there was a few pieces left and a shovel took quick work of what was remaining. Anyway just wanted to share what worked in a pinch back in the day. I've used this since in several variations. Last time taking a trailer full of metal on the farm to sell for scrap iron. Anyway just thought it might come in useful to others.

I've bought one of these bed unloading system in 1998 and I love it and I still use it today.. nicely built unloader❤❤
@SPCLPONY6 ай бұрын
I too, bought one of those bed unloader mats. It worked great on my 95' F150. Obviously they had a limit on the weight they could move, but for the most part, it unloaded anything I put in my truck bed from mulch, gravel and fire wood. The trick was to have a plastic bed liner, or just the factory painted surface to aid in letting the load slide easier. A rubber or Rhino bed liner would severely hinder that operation. I would keep several hundred pounds of cinders on the mat throughout the winters to slowly dispense on my driveway during snow removal.

When I was working as a handyman, I had to haul all sorts of pea gravel, 3/4- gravel, 1/4- gravel, and dirt in my pickup to finish off jobs. I picked up a LoadHandler and set it up on my plastic drop-in bed on the Tundra. After it took a half yard of 1/4- gravel (just over 2,000#), I was sold on the thing. I've had it for about 15 years now and the metallic/plastic "tarp" as you call it is still intact. It moves heavy loads without bothering my old body. (Last used @ 68) OK, now to watch your build. That's great. I think you overbuilt it, because that trailer doesn't look like it could handle 3/4 ton, let alone more than a ton. (Just a guess) OK, liked and subbed, Viny.

The one i bought for my pickup more than 20 years ago mounted on the top of the tail gate. The portion of heavy material in front of the wheel wells took some effort but otherwise it worked easily for soils and mulches. I also came up with a slip sheet to reduce friction.
@CT_Taylor6 ай бұрын
i use a truck bed trailer and I use a piece of kinda junky plywood sealed with a water sealer just to help keep it from dying so soon, and it has 4 sheets of corrugated plastic sheets (think outdoor signs) glued to it and i taped the seams with very high quality duct tape (not literally duct tape but its good stuff) to keep stuff from catching) I then used a few fender washers and used short screws to retain the plastic in each corner in case glued were to give out doesnt cover the 4 areas not covered, but i could make individual sized ones for those, but i dont need to. I use a hf truck bed unloader and lay the plastic sheeting past the front of the box and magnet it up on the wall. then I fill the trailer with garbage over like 5 months from household stuff, and i have a topper on the trailer, an extended height one. I have to leave the unloader off the tailgate just in the bed until I unload because the bars stick passed the ends of the tailgate. I fill the thing to the top (200-800 pounds normally of trash) and then I take a few hand tools like rakes/pitch fork/ snow shovel and I drive it 20 minutes to incinerator, pay the government 20-30 dollars for the load, and then do it again 5 months later. its pretty cake for what I do. I wish I had a plastic bedliner so the liquids in trahs wouldnt rust the floor. I tried graphite paint which worked but the hand tools wore out the coating super fast and i cant not use tools when i dont have a dump. the lever action to pull the stuff out works great but i work in stages, ill crank out a section, clear the rear by just pushing from the side clear off the other, crank, if stuff starts hanging up (and thus tries to sta in the bed), i stop, push it in from the sides back towards the tailgate staying on the netted material, then crank. I wish I had a drill setup so I could speed it up lol

Your application of the boat winch was genius. Rather than sliding the load on the floor of the trailer, how about some mechanism to grab your conveyor belting at the front and pull it over the top of the load, rolling everything out. The winch could be utilized though it would have to be removable to allow loading the trailer or one could use your tractor or another vehicle, attach to the belt at the front of the trailer and roll the load out. You could also pull the front of the belt (over the load) by attaching a rope or cable to a fixed object like a tree and pulling the trailer forward.

I have one of those from Harbor Freight. Like you showed at first. On a 98 Tacoma 2WD so it sits low. The handle is too long and no leverage. So I found an Old Socket big enough to fit over the end. Bolted it on. And I use a Ratchet. So I can go back and forth and not all the way around. As it isn't good for me to do a lot of bending. I got a 18" PVC pipe that fits over the ratchet if I need more leverage. Way better than stock.

I've had the load handler type for many years. I've unloaded many truckloads of sand, gravel, and firewood. There is negligible wear on the pull sheet. It's important to clean under the pull sheet each use, otherwise you're sanding down your belt and bed. In a pickup, you have to try to keep the material from in front of the wheel wells. Firewood and gravel in particular will lock together against the wheelwells, and you'll have to remove material to be able to conveyer-out the load.

Place two cables under the trailer, right under the sides, drill holes in the front of the trailer (next to the car) and attach the cables to that movable wooden side and of course to the roller at the back (opposite the floor foil), so you can move the system in the opposite direction to return everything automatically, instead of having to climb in and pull it manually!

They already make this is called an "unloader" sell at HFB for $50 and A LOT better than the one they sell at Northern tool for $120. The HFB 1 is 1 solid bar and works fantastic! I had the one from Northern tools and it worked pretty good until it broke for yes 2 years. As it was a bar was made of two pieces put together in the middle. The HFB is cheaper and far more superior in my humble opinion. * I definitely put both of them to the limit used it a lot w/ multiple heavy heavy 57 stone, Georgia Ray clay loads. Both of them actually.

wow cool stuff, what does the grocery store use the belt for?

You could easily add a winch on the front that is attached to the back of your wood baffle thing you made to be able to pull the belt back into place Also, to everyone complaining that this isn’t $50 because of the tools needed to build it: other than a welder, this project could be done with fairly basic tools.

It's nice when you have whole shop full of toys to play with to accomplish what ever you want build, not every one has a garage like this

Using a cordless drill on the winch instead of hand turning might help, too. But it turned out really good. 2 thumbs up!

I have a load handler shown in the video and they work great. Never had one tear and I can move a 1000 pounds of gravel with it.

I enjoyed this, Viny, and now that I've discovered your channel, have been exploring other videos. Do you have any thoughts on how your approach could be modified to use a 12V ATV winch? I'm seeing these for about $70-$100, some self-contained with cable and switch, and others sold as a replacement part of just the winch motor with tang shaft (seems like 20 Spline shaft with an OD over 16.6MM is common). It seems like attaching an electric winch to the shaft that rolls everything up would be the trickiest part, right?

@0:31 Hello? obviously, neither one of us is an operating engineer, but I know they make a bucket without those teeth.

To make it even less work, connect a cable to the wood thingy that hooks to a spool that will wind it in using a drill

You should coat the floor with something low friction to aid the belt, i suspect the worst enemies of sliding will become the floor to the belt not the material to the belt. using sheets of corrugated plastic, you can secure them with a hammer tacker if you wanted , you can at least make it low friction on both surfaces to encourage the force sliding across to stay sliding and not tearing THey also make graphite paint but its a wear coating and im not sure if it adhears to wood well

You need the same assembly on the front end of the trailer to wind the thing back up. That way you don't have to hop up into the trailer and pull it back by hand.

This is a great idea honestly. Could make it so that people with cars could haul loads of dirt and gravel easily. At least, this would make it so that I would be able to do a lot more work with my car over buying a truck. Would just need to find a shitty old trailer now.. I wish more people would try solving problems with their mind instead of dumping money on it. That sort of thinking is what many people these days are lacking.
