Mindboggling that this dropped in 78. Just add a bit more gain and you've got Dream Theater, Symphony X and so on. Revolutionary

I worked as a touring sound system tech for 23 years. I loved this band and on several times, I mixed the bands live mix while the Dregs sound tech, Scoots Lyndon, did the mix in the remote truck for the simulcast. Unlike many bands I've mixed, the Dregs played their dynamics, they didn't need a sound guy to play with levels. I found T Lavitz working on a late night LA jazz station one night as I drove AC/DC to San Francisco from San Diego. I should have stopped and called the station but I told myself there would be another day. I was wrong. RIP T Lavitz.

I met and asked Steve, "what's your favorite composition?" "Night Meets Light" he replied to which I replied: "Mine too and It will be played at my Wake... it's already in my Will". He blanched, leaned back, smiled and said: "Well, Thanks! It made me very happy.

Dayum, no music in this world compares in any way to this, these guys were genius and this music stands apart from anything before or after it and will forever, as a young aspiring guitar player my whole life changed the first time I'd heard them, they are everything all rolled into one, progressive jazz, art rock, ball crunching rock n roll, blue grass, classical and everything in between, played with technical precision and finesse in a place all its own in the musical world, Steve, Andy, Rod, T., and Allen, Took music to a place all their own and gave us all something pretty special to appreciate respect feel and imagine through the music of THE DIXIE DREGS

I had to come check the original Odyssey out. I wasn't aware Dream Theater didn't write this song until I was watching it and I read it in the comments. Holy Toledo! I have never listened the The Dixie Dregs before, what the hells up with that. Thought they were a country band. I was expecting to hear the original and see that Dream Theater had blown it out of the water, but it is absolutely sick. That's one of my favorite pieces and to think something that progressive and technical was released in '78.

I had the promo of this album in 1978, Electronics repair shop. The local musicians were blown away at the time . I repaired amps, guitars, etc. We also sold albums, and a 20 year old female employee ordered this on a whim.

The First time I heard this track I had it on 8 track - it was a real revelation and there were thoughts of King Crimson/Genesis - love the violin - this is an awesome track - the time changes are fantastic - I learned so much from listening to this - I was 16 yrs old - became a woodwind player (flute) - the band that everyone called the musician musicians - awesome stuff.

*So far ahead of their time.* Every Dregs' fan tends to claim they _"were there from the very beginning."_ Yeah, right. If that were true, Dregs would have been as popular as any of the big bands. Truth is... their following was very small, and the band struggled like hell. People thought _"Dixie Who???"_ was very weird in those days. They'd scream _"Turn That Shit Down! That Ain't Music!"_ So I would pop the trunk on my orange '70 R/T SE Charger so they could hear it better. They'd flip me off. At 6'5" 280, i didn't care. I was a big fan of Jeff Beck too. Gentle Giant, Synergy, Alan Parsons, Grusin, Grover, Benoit, etc. People thought i was nuts. They were into Journey, Foreigner, and all that other simpleton shit. Been there. Done that. I was actually there. Jussed sayin' Thank you, Dregs. ❤
