Finally a video showing how it's done! I found the instructions on an old Honda tech forum post, but it was very drawn out, if I followed it, I would've ended up removing the entire kick panel from the driver side, and part of the center console, thought to myself that there has to be an easier way and you showed me that there is! I'm going to do this this weekend on my 2000 Honda Civic Ex Coupe! My asthmatic lungs thanks you!

An old degraded cabin air filter would be why i keep finding what seems to be old and deteriorated foam in my 99 Si air vents. And one of my problems on the goose chase to restore AC this whole summer..

I bought a Hatchback and the doors came rigged up with speaker wire and just about anything they could find, I want to replace the birds nest of wires they left under my dash board and do it the right way, now that I know what harness I need! It’s more of a cushion/seal. They always fall apart over time as it gets brittle. Hasn’t affected anything!

I’m in the USA, Virginia specifically. I believe certain models had the spot for it. Mine is a 2000 EX. Had to pick up the cage from a 95-01 CR-V at the junkyard and ordered the filter from Amazon for a CR-V.

There is no official part for this but Is there any merit to adding some more screen to where the cabin air intake is at the top of the hood, all those small leaves/seeds will clog up the filter quickly if allowed to just fall in. Thoughts?

I imagine that it would help, never thought to look into it but makes sense as that is the point of entry. I'm sure small bits will still find their way in.

It appears that 96-98 Models out of the US have the provision for it, For some reason the US Market only got it in the 99-00

It’s the same filter as the CR-V. This filter I ordered was for a CR-V 95-01

It was an optional accessory. You can either pick up one used from a 95-01 CR-V at a junkyard or Buy New online with this part number (80292-ST3-E01) for the frame. The filter (amzn.to/3SQC7ex ) can be ordered for a 95-01 CR-V from amazon like I did.

In the US market it was an option and not standard. But yes the 95-01 CR-V filter housing will fit.

Hey, I appreciate this video. I've never cleaned out that part of my vehicle and as you can imagine I've got about 25 years of old leaves in there. Can you give me more info on that caddy that you are using for the air filter? You mentioned it's from a CRV do you know the year?

I used to get pieces of leaves blown through the vents at times and it would go in my eyes. This thankfully solved that issue. 95-01 CR-V’s are where you want to get them from. Cheers!

How important is the housing? The part is discontinued, and it seems like it wouldn't be a big deal to just shove the filter into the hole without the housing...

It helps center things but I can’t imagine it would make a huge difference. I ended up going to a junkyard and getting the part from a CR-V

This is only true for 99-00 Civics and some 98 Civics. 96-97 Civic's do no not have a spot for the filter. I have two 96 civics and one 2000 civic.

Lets say there isnt an air filter for the in cabin.. how much of a difference would this even make? Seems like the manufacturers didnt thinks it was a huge deal.. so whats the benefit?

They did outside of the US Market. Benefit is not having junk and leaves block airflow in the HVAC unit. I've also had leaf bits blow through the vents into my eyes in the past.

Definitely makes me not want to put a filter in.. most thought about gettin in to clean and obstructions on airflow. my 98 already has issues getting air cold enough with the old tech. How does your 89 blow in full blown heat?

It definitely wasn’t the strongest and would take time to cool down. The ac in these cars kind of suck honestly. But if you’re driving on a highway it’s decent. Definitely nothing like a modern car. When idle you’ll feel temps rise. Typically id get down to 40 - 60 degrees Fahrenheit in hot weather.

In the US I don’t think they were standard with any trim. I believe it was an optional accessory you could purchase separately. I'm pretty sure it was standard outside of the states.
