DIY 2.7K Blackfly-S Digital 16mm Telecine

Here is an introductory video of my just built DIY 2.7K Blackfly-S Digital 16mm Telecine. It uses an Athena 16mm film analyzer projector for frame by frame transfer at about 8fps. I used 2.7K Blackfly-S USB3 Color camera triggered by a magnet and a reed switch mounted to the main drive shaft. The backlight is an LED array removed from a film scanning rig,

Hey Paul, Looks great. How are you managing to make the motor run in this frame by frame mode?

The Athena projector was designed to run that way. From 1 to 12 fps and continuously at 18 and 24fps. Its an analyzer projector.

Paul, I'm building a similar setup with the Blackfly Camera. Do you have any suggestions about the lens and what was your choice for this project. Too many variables to work out what lens to use,

@@paulcotto Looks like a reasonably priced lens. Is the projector lens still intact or did you remove the glass? With my system I need to actually focus on the film frame without the projector lens. For this I may need further magnification. Thanks for the info. Looks like a great setup.

I did remove the glass elements from the projector lens to use it as a focus aid. The lens has a razor thin focus plane because it’s a microscope lens.
