thanks for the help guys, in the book it says in 4 cylinder older than 2000 you have to remove the heat shield, we have a 6 cylinder but it looks like there's a heat shield there too it's really in the way and i can barely do anything with it there. Is there a reason i shouldn't take out the heat shield as well? is it attached to something i don't know about that would mess something up?

@60magras i removed the cover but the real problem was the contacts on the battery poles needed some find grit sand paper cleaning.

you have to wiggle it out. basically its all from the bottom. I have headers on mine so its a little easier for me but all you do is disconnect the negative battery terminal then remove the heat shield form the starter then unbolt the starter then slide it away from the engine, To drop it out of the car I had to lift it up higher and around my headers and then back down. I did not have to remove anything else except the heat shield. You should have a decent view of it from under the car.

I am changing a starter on a 2001 Eclipse 6 cyl. It took me 45 minutes to get it out after I had unbolted everything. I haven't been able to get the new one in yet. The engineers designed it purposely to make it difficult for me individually I'm sure. But I'm going to outsmart them.

Can you do this without any access to the under side of the car? I don't have any tools to lift my car.

@dharma760 yes you can ive done it about 3 times, its not that hard work wise, but the cramped space makes it difficult if u need help message me and ill help you out

how do you pull the starter out of the v6? i tried pulling the oil filter that didnt work.. any advice?

how did you get it out I have 6cyl and it I can't see how to get it out either

I've done everything on the video and I still can't get the starter out. It seems to be rusted on or something. I can't get a good grip to pull or an angle to bang it loose. Any suggestions beside WD-40?
