This is how I've always done it to all my car's and trucks. Except I add oil with the drain plug off until I see clean oil draining, then plug it and fill it. Probably a useless waste of a few milliliters, but it makes me feel better.

Just an FYI: A lot of comments are asking why you use a Fram oil filter. If you do a little research, Fram makes one of the worst oil filters you can buy. Spend 2 dollars more and purchase either a factory OEM filter, or K&N. Both sold at NAPA, Walmart, AutoZone etc for 8-10 bucks. Good luck and take care. ✌️

Yes the regular "orange can of death" Fram is crap, However, their higher end filters (the silver ones) are pretty decent, check bobistheoilguy.com The orange ones though suck, cardboard ends and all lol

I've never had to poor oil in the filter before installing. That makes a hell of a mess. Definitely not recommended.

Julian Rosales usually only oil around the edges to make sure it seals better

Disagree as filling the filter primes the system prevents strain to the oil pump real mechanics always do this , so what if it's a little messy it's a proven method of prevention and keeps the engine lubed when first cranked

What a mess. No clean up. Loosen the top cap also for drain and wipe the areas also. Fill the center of the filter but use a better filter with a anti drain back valve also. Car looks abused. Sad sad car.
