DIY: 2023 Ford Maverick - Cutting a Third Key - Do This ASAP!

I have a 2023 Maverick and stumbled upon this video because I realized I needed a key i could take out kitesurfing. Of course a FOB and salt water don't really mix so I was looking for a 'simple' key or just a door key. This video just deals with FOBs, but made me realize i maybe need a 3rd programmed key for the future or it could cost me a lot of money. I also was having a hard time locating just a door key blank on the internet. I then realized i could likely just disassemble a 2nd spare FOB to just use the key blade as a dummy key. So I went ahead and ordered the two FOB offer on Amazon linked in this video's description. I called at least 4 locksmiths and two Ford dealerships to get the best deal on the actual cutting. I finally found a locksmith who said he would do 2 for 40 dollars. Upon meeting him in his mobile van he said these were 'tricky' locks so he was going to do a test on a dumb key. i asked him if he would take 20 for it if it worked. He agreed and all his cuts were good. Programming FOBs went eezy peezy just like shown in this video. So now in addition to my two factory keys, I have two programmed FOBS and a surf key... all for less than 100 dollars total. I am happy.

Bought this key fob on Amazon and followed your instructions, worked perfectly. The dealer cut it for me for $25.00 and told me he could not program it, even though I had to get a second one made which they charged me a small fortune and I programmed the third at the dealership while I was there in less than thirty seconds. this is the best video. Thanks for posting it.

i just did this and it worked great !!!!!!!!! thanks!!!! it was a little bit difficult to find someone to cut it , several locksmiths said they could not and a few dealers would not but i found one to cut it for $10 .00 !!! 😀😀😀😀😀

Glad it worked out for you. Most locksmiths refuse to cut since they make most on selling the keys.

@@HeartlandRebuilds i believe you, but ain't that dumb ? they would rather make no money at all on doing you a solid that is easy for them if they can't make an arm and a leg on selling you the key... one locksmith told me same price (75-100) whether i provide the key or they do... genius. I then found a cool locksmith that cut my two provided FOBs for 40 bucks. Didn't take him 10 minutes.

Hey my key buttons aren’t working after programming a third key. Should I try reprogramming?

When I click on the Amazon link it says its not compatible with the 2023 XL maverick, should I ignore that, it says its compatible with the 2020 Maverick which doesn't exist.

Yeah, just ignore the matching vehicle info, they work fine.

What key machine are you using? I was told they need to be "laser" cut by the dealer.

Defu 368a. I've had it a few years, still works great. Bought it pre-COVID for $110 on eBay. There's similar models available for about the same price, or a little more. The "laser" key cutter is just a vertical mill.

Where did you buy the key at? Also, will this work to turn off the “MYkey” option in my 2022 maverick? my “mykey” got accidentally programmed and now I need another key to unavailable it. It’s like 300 dollars at a dealership

Ok, so I have both keys but one made a round trip through the washer/dryer. I'm assuming I can't program a third if my second fob no longer works? Any other methods?

You have to have two good keys for this method, otherwise it's a trip to the dealer.

Yes, every Maverick is the same. As long as you have two working keys and get a third cut, you can do this method.

No, you need two keys for this method. If you have only one, then it's a trip to the dealer.

Yes, you have to have two working keys to make a third with this method. Otherwise you'll need to visit the dealership or locksmith to make another. Then you can use this method.

I did my old Rangers this way but didn't think a smart key Maverick was the same. Spent $450 for two dealership keys on my '23 Mav XL. Great video but too late for me. Shucks dar n it.

I don't make keys very often, but this key cutter/duplicator has more than paid for itself with dealer prices like that. Yikes!
