In this video I’m making a simple wooden stool out of 2x4’s. This project is a part of the Modern Maker Podcast’s Two 2x4 Challenge. Hope you enjoy!

MATERIALS:
Two 2x4’s
Wood glue
TOOLS:
Measuring tape
Pen
Ruler
Bandsaw / table saw /planer
Miter saw
Belt sander
Hand held belt sander
Chisel
Clamps
USEFUL TIPS:
Using a planer and/or a table saw makes this project a lot easier.
SAFETY NOTES:
Safety first! Always be careful with dangerous tools and make sure you know how to use them correctly.

I like how she designed the final glue up. That the seat comes together in three pieces to make the leg joints easier to make is ingenious. I like.

Looks great. Just a tip after cutting notches with your band saw slide the chisel between the cuts in the middle and move the chisel back and forth and they will fall out.

I love how the wood grain turned out. So beautiful and simple! It's really encouraging to see women doing beautiful projects like this. :) Someday when I can buy tools like a belt sander and circular saw, I might try my hand at some designs like this.

I agree with the other comments about your hands. Lovely! To keep them that way, l would recommend you use a push stick.

Thank you! I always use a push stick if my hands get close to the blade. I feel like I have better control and grip using my hands if I'm a safe distance away from the blade. 😊

About 1:45 when you were breaking out the mortises. Those scraps are excellent glue spreaders.

Thank you! I put a coat of Osmo whitewash wax on it, it keeps the wood light and it doesn't yellow over time. :)

I like how you arranged the grain pattern. It's very attractive. Btw is there any special reason why you don't use a table saw? There are some cuts that can be done easier with it.

um.. why you added wood dust on top and rub it before sanding?

Ammar A. It's saw dust. You rub it on while the glue is still wet and it fills any gaps and dries up the excess glue.

I guess it's called a strap clamp. I just used it to quickly hold the pieces together, so that I could flip the stool right side up and see that the top was lining up nicely. :)

well done! - functional, attractive, and efficient The leg joinery could be better but that is secondary to the objective. I think that it would have been nice to see you make it with hand tools, but that is not so important.

Thanks! Yes I did, I just didn't get good footage from it. I like light wood and with a coat of whitewash wax the pine doesn't yellow over time. :) I used Osmo wax.

hi ,why you not glue up the top base first and after that put the leg...this step will be strong enough for hold your leg.by the way you did so well... I like it. thanks for the video.

It just seemed easier this way. The fit of the legs wasn't perfect, so I was able to get a better glue up. :)

I did whitewash it, i just didn't get good footage of that. I used Osmo whitewash wax. :)

Was it "Osmo Wood Wax Finish Colored Oil" ? Did you put the clear coat they recommend on top? Thinking of using white washed pine in our house so would love any tips / info you have...maybe it'd make a good video? (if you used it on furniture I mean.) I any case I called the US distributor and they sell pine floors too so I am getting quotes for both. Thanks for tip.

1:18 looks like you tried to cut it and then decided to sand it down, is that true?

Yes, I tried to cut it first, but I couldn't get a straight line on the band saw. So I had to try another way since I didn't have a table saw. Table saw would have made this project so much easier! :)
