I'm a bit of a neat freak, since I'm doing it for myself and I'm not on the clock. I like to use wide painters tape around the edges of the patched area, remove the tape when your done for a nice neat border.
@din9lebeRrY11 ай бұрын
Aren’t you supposed to feather our the edges to help pitch water flow away? Seems like with a tape edge it’ll leave a thick border thatll pool water rather than divert away.
@matthewsalvador978310 ай бұрын
@@din9lebeRrYyou can still feather it downward and still have an appealing sight… put the tape on first then put material … feather it away and when done peel tape at angle to make straight and the material is still smooth.. it’s like caulking a window or door… I got this makes sense

When using a roofing cement put roofing tape on top, pad it down and layer more on top. It will set and seal it better. Great job though I love watching roofing diy vids as I am a roofer.

X Æ A-12 He is using a fiberglass type roof fabric. I normally use asphalt saturated cotton fabric. Some companies call it different names.

Great video I just got mine done last night can you believe it on Christmas Day 2021. Had to seal around my air unit that's on top of my roof on a landing I have two air units up there but one of them needs to be sealed. I bought the cheaper version of Henry I think it's 207 I don't know why I probably should about the more expensive one but I'm not going to be in my house more than another couple years. It sealed up everything easily and it only took me about an hour. Oh by the way I don't know anybody who's a contractor we would do it for $500 you're talking $1,500 you just saved a lot of money especially here in Las Vegas these guys are out of control they think they're worth $1,000 an hour

Be careful not to seal weep holes in the bottom row of brick. Those are there to allow moisture to escape the air space. This roof does not have a cricket, which diverts water flow on the high side around the chimney. That space on the roof between the chimney and roof ridge will collect water for a while, which can lead to leak.

That's not a repair. Best case it is a temporary band-aid over an open wound. This should only be done if you're desperate and can't afford to do it right.
@ShyRage15 жыл бұрын
None the less the cost of savings is tremendous. I did this 6 years ago and the rubber seal has never leaked.
@mikeva1005 жыл бұрын
Who cares.
@JimMcGuigan5 жыл бұрын
Look at what you did to the bottom. You put sealant below the bottom flange if the flashing. You sealed in any place where moisture could escape. You’ve provided a poor mans band aid, not a fix. I feel bad for the people who don’t understand this for what it is.
@lfzhu5865 жыл бұрын
I think I understand what you said. But just can’t trust nowadays contractors. Bought house last year, roof leak after close, roof came 5 times finally fixed the leak. This year I climbed up there, basically they did what is in the video, only worse than the video. So why don’t I just do it myself, don’t have to waste money.
@paulantz72225 жыл бұрын
I’ve done it 3 times the “right way”. Even with the torch. My roof is leaking again and I don’t wanna go over the same process anymore. I agree that this is just a quick remedy but I’m so tired of that damn leak😛

@ironwingsshops22594 жыл бұрын
I'm a do-it-yourselfer and it looks to me you can expect to be disappointed. Don't blame the material. You did you're homework but just not experienced and simplified. I learned the hard way: alone. You put a band aid over the real problem which is water collects without a diversion using flashing and more elbow grease. Aside from the point, I would suggest using a putty knife around 3-4 inches wide to collect and spread the "tar" to make clean/square corners which a chick brush can't accomplish and purchase a box of disposable latex gloves instead of dish-washing gloves which are less expensive and have numerous applications including the dreaded "re-dos".

This only stops leaks around bad flashing. You have to get under the shingles in case its leaking because somebody put a nail to close to the chimney thats sticking up a little. Watet could be coming down from anywhere above and leaking through a nail and all that goop on top won't do a thing
