Hi. Thanks for the upload. Job well done. Only criticism would be the music. Anyway I'm a professional floor layer in the UK and just wanted to say you've done an excellent job. Only tip I'd add is that it's always best to lay your first three rows without glue and make sure all is well. Once that's done, glue and clamp it all together. This ensures it'll all be straight without movement. Other than that, well done.

Very encouraging! I don't see it mentioned here but another rookie mistake: not removing the base trim. A primary purpose of trim is to cover the gap between wall and flooring. So leaving a gap between the base trim defeats the purpose of the base trim.

you didnt finish watching the video, they added a new type of trim on top of their existing trim
@twoandhalfbengals Жыл бұрын
ya it they paid extra for engineered hardwood. You DO IT RIGHT... This is completely wrong. Guy above has 100% valid point. Trim should be taken off, it usually comes of really easy too. Instructions clearly states the space for expansion is for the WALL not the trim lol. Would be couple more hours and cost of nails and touch up paint.@@shaolin811

Thanks so much. Great video. Amateur DIYer and had been wondering how to install hardwood over concrete in my laundry room. This video helps. Doesn’t the first row need a good amount of glue across the base of the plank to hold tight?
@DadandSonDIY3 жыл бұрын
Glad the video was helpful! Because the floor is floating, none of the boards should be glued down. Actually, with this installation method, gluing anything down can cause issues with expansion.

Hi I have a laminated 5" x 47" x 7/16" plank flooring all wood, the product is called the hydropel real hardwood by Bruce. I am putting it over underlayment because even though it's not in the basement it's a concrete slab. But I worry about it sounding hollow with your experience what would you do to eliminate the hollow sound completely?
@DadandSonDIY3 жыл бұрын
The underlayment should help reduce the hollow noise.

Rookie mistake. He forgot the first step. Make sure the wife is out of the house so she doesn’t walk in half way through the project and start telling you how you’re doing it wrong. If step one is missed, you must immediately go get a six pack and go on strike. Pro tip. Free of charge. Citations: Life Experience Volume 1 for Dummies (1994)

Great video, But at 4:16 Thats how you cut your fingers off in a Table Saw. Almost all table saw accidents happen from the Left hand helping feed wood like that, then Suprise ! You should only use your Right hand when feeding wood into a table saw. You use your right hand and apply pressure with a slight clockwise twisting pressure with your hand to feed it thru the saw, Smaller stuff use a Push stick. But putting your left hand up like that that and helping feed with the Lefty is how 90% of people cut a finger off.

What’s the best way to measure cutouts?
@DadandSonDIY3 жыл бұрын
I'm not entirely sure what you are talking about. If you are referring to cutting the trim by the doors for the wood flooring, we did it by putting our tool on top of a scrap piece of flooring to cut at the proper height, as shown in the video.

@@danorion369 yes! The plank I am installing has a tight T&G connection: I decided not to glue them. I also think that the glue would limit flexibility for expansion and contraction.

Looks nice but here is the question, you glued only tile to tile entire floor but when it comes to wall trims, why did you nail them and not just glue?
@heavyt5489Ай бұрын
Old question the trims were nailed to the skirting not the floating floor the nails are stronger then glue as these will get knocked with vacuum etc. It was a easier alternative to removing the existing skirting, installing the flooring and reinstall skirting above floating floor. It would have made the flooring look more seamless or original if they done that.

You keep saying wood. This is not wood. It's either laminate or LVP. The thin layer on top of the flooring is not wood. It's some sort of composite material.
