Nice work Colt. My previous room was treated with fabric walls, and then a mixture of a few other products in specific areas. I had no idea how all this went together until I saw the install, and then the decommission. I wish this video was out a handful of years ago. As you mentioned, there's such little information out there. It seems like the pro builders know it, and keep it a secret.
@ColtCapperrune5 жыл бұрын
Shane Grush Dude it really does seem like people are trying to keep it secret. I asked a pretty big studio builder here in town if I could buy track from him, he told me you had to be licensed to install it and shut me down in a half second flat. Thanks for watching man!

I did a very similar thing in my basement studio. Only it was pretty much DIY. I built a stud wall inside my exterior wall and put acoustic cotton batts between the studs. Then I covered it all with acoustically transparent fabric with the seams between the sections of fabric meeting on the studs. Then I covered the seams by nailing furring strips onto the studs which I stained a really rich color. It came out looking really cool.

@natdenchfield80612 жыл бұрын
The use of those steel studs for panels are a great idea. So much better than the usual, heavy, time consuming use of ply to make the frames.. To cover them, I'd perhaps just screw strips of 6mm (whatever that is in imperial) MDF on the rear and front edges in order to cover the panels in one fabric piece. The rear strip will be to take the staples (4mm fine fabric staples will be fine) and the front strips just to create a clean edge all the way around (lightly round the corners with the side of your stapler, so they're not sharp and dont pearce the fabric).

Colt you made it a lot harder on yourself using the metal The way I build my panels I just cut up some plywood some MBF and then I built them into a frame the peaces I cut then I filled them with rock wool and then put some fabric over it and then use monkey hooks to hang them on the wall it was a lot easier then using metal studs and then building another frame for the fabric And it came over sounding great and making the room sound great

Really glad about this. Thanks for taking time to share. First off, the newspaper recycled stuff, eco cell, for low frequency absorption is a relief; people act like it’s cool having fiberglass in your breathable space. The wife was: NO GO. I’ll have to review to coefficients of its absorption but it’s great to know there is something safe out there as a substitute. Did you look into Solserene by Owens Corning for your ceiling? It is a fiberglass product but because of the way it is premise, there is more of a safety factor built in. It also uses a fabric covering similar to what you used with Fabric Wall.

Colt, this video is extremely helpful. I've kind of drooled a bit over rooms like yours when I see them on IG, but the teardown seen here shows that you can really design a modest space to work wonders for you. I'm amazed you got away with the volume in an apartment building! Hey, on using the metal studs for your panels...I'm guessing the metal must have a slight acoustical trade off over building sturdier wooden frames, or am I just drinking the kool aid? How far off the wall were they? I guess if they are thick enough they don't have to be floating off the wall. Cheers man.
@ColtCapperrune5 жыл бұрын
Alex Breyer thanks so much for watching! This apartment only had someone above me, no one below, or on any side of us. So that certainly helped. There isn’t really any acoustical trade off for using metal studs, even the panels that are made of wood frames will not absorb anything around the edges where the frame is. These panels were hanging directly on the wall, as I didn’t have the square footage to give up to space them off the wall. Hope that helps!
@cameronball39985 жыл бұрын
Any advice on monitor isolation/soundproofing? I'm currently in an apartment for my studio and am constantly worried about sound running through to other floors of my building, and since you're just now getting out of an apartment I figure you've had to tackle a similar problem at the very least. Love the video, will definitely be using your metal track method soon for some panels of my own.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this as well, I'm moving into a new apartment studio space fairly soon, and I'm gonna have neighbors on the sides and below me.
@ColtCapperrune5 жыл бұрын
Cameron Ball honestly I was unable to do anything to legitimately soundproof the old room. However, my apartment was set up so there was only an upstairs neighbor, we were on a concrete slab, and there was no one to the left, right, front, or back. So only ever having to deal with one neighbor made it much more manageable. I just kind of got lucky and never had any complaints. I work very quietly anyway. And if they were vacuuming upstairs, or if they were mowing grass outside, or whatever, I would just take a break. Definitely some issues to try to get past, but I did it for going on five years, so it’s definitely a workable situation

If you do need other tools or stronger fabric tucking tools for the future, we can help you. We specialize in fabric tucking tools, manufacture them in the USA. But they are available to all fabric installers without question ask. They will work with the major commercial track systems included the one you mentioned in your video. Actually we started creating some because we could not get anything efficiente and strong enough. So we build them ourselves. If you are interested visit our website at fabrictracksystem.com. Rebellion Beats You are on the right track! That piece is the actual track, for the top and bottom of the panels, in addition to that you need actual steel studs that fit inside that U channel. The actual steel studs are stiffer, fit inside of that piece you linked to, and then you use short self tapping sheet metal screws to screw them together.
