Ohm's Law is a very handy formula for step-up and step-down converters. If your supply is rated at a max of 4.62A at 19.5V, you just multiply those for ~90W. Since we are stepping up to 40.9V, Ohm's Law states the highest output would be ~2.2A depending on the power lost in the conversion (a little power is always lost). However, this does not take into account the actual output of the AC/DC adapter as opposed to the advertised output. Many AC/DC adapters overcompensate and then post the minimum rated output. This means the AC/DC adapter at 2.9A x 40.9V is actually outputting almost 120W, which is well over its rated power capacity (free power is good). I personally use a 120W AC/DC adapter with a 96V converter so I can quick-charge my 20S pack to 80V at almost 2A. Yes, it is advertised at 120W, but it outputs over 150W.

Hello. Just noticed you said you will adjust the the current to 4-5 Amps. With a power supply that can deliver a little over 4A that's not going to happen as when boosting the voltage you will detract from the current the laptop power supply can deliver minus losses. Not sure whether you knew that but just thought you might be interested. It will work to give you enough to charge though and it is a very good idea.

That’s wrong, upping voltage does not take from amp, amp stays the same and the voltage increases there increases wattage of charger

@@JoeyDiazInASpeedo without taking losses into account you have simple formula Pin=Pout so double the voltage and you get half the amps out, since P=Voltage * Current. Hope it make sense.

I appreciate that you are making instructional videos for those of us needing visual learning. I noticed that the pc power brick has a ground and it looks like to power leads wound together. Really hard to see how you are wiring the XT- 60 plugs. I realize you are trying to keep video short, but some of us. namely me, really want to be sure we are doing it correctly. Just a thought, not a criticism. Thanks for you help.

each power supply will be different most have negative and positive, the 3rd wire is probably detection or signal .. just make sure the red and black are connected use a multimeter to double check red is the 19v input

I'd like to see the result when the cells reach the set voltage. Most bms stop charging cells at the bms designed cutoff voltage so will some cells reach that? How would the bms deal with that? It would be good to follow up with testing each cell after a charge cycle to see if a 4V balance is maintained.

What happens if you leave it on the charger and go away. Will it stop charging on its own or would it damage the battery pack?

but theres nothing to protect from overvoltage? this will have to be monitored while charging and mannually disconnected at the desired charge level. seems dangerous

i love it ill be using mine to do the same thanks i one the 1200 watt unit ,i messed up and ordered the small ones 5 pack like your using with no current control darn it lol i have to get more .i wander how long these this last if if under like 70 percent load fer a long time months weeks years.i wonder how warm the switching chips n such under that booster board board run heat wize mounted like that on top on power supply lacking air gap ? who knows lol be blessed thanks fer video

it will only start to damage the cells once they become fully charged, so if you can pull them off as they hit the 40v mark, sure you can .. forget that they are charging and you will be cleaning the walls and furniture

So, where is the cell monitoring connection? Those are lithium cells, and therefore are the ones we keep seeing exploding and catching fire in peoples homes etc. Lithium cells need balancing for best output, cell life and, of course SAFETY! I've been using lithium batteries for radio control hobbies for decades, and every single cell is monitored by the charger so that none of them will ever be over charged. And if you say these batteries don't need that, please explain how the fires that are shown on news channels are using any different method to yours. (I'm sure you've never had a lithium fire in your home by the way, and neither have I)
