How are you getting the proper micron size with a peristaltic pump?
@atomizer2665
@atomizer2665 Жыл бұрын
The main issue with closed systems is the nutrient will eventually become elementally unbalanced and will need to be reset at some point. The beauty of aeroponics is it uses so little water and nutrient that you can run it as an open system where nothing is returned. If you do aeroponics for a long time and delve into the more advanced types, you`ll come to realize that what makes aeroponics so efficient is not mist or having roots hanging in the air (the most commonly stated things) its about the level of control it provides. The potential of an aeroponic system is directly related to the level of control provided by that system. For example, a pump only aeroponic system will provide less control compared to an aeroponic system equipped with accumulator and solenoids. I think your rig looks great visually, as a growing system not as good due to the limited space for roots and mist, limited control over the mist delivery (pump only) and less than optimal nutrient over time (closed system). You need to experience a system with limited control and one with absolute control to really understand the difference it makes. Here`s an idea of ultimate mist control kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJ_CkoSQh52osMU I have the stainless version of the aeroscience nozzle and i`m afraid to say they are not the greatest AA nozzle for aeroponics. Here`s a test i did a while back, the chamber is 26 gal, 40psi air pressure. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqO2q2SroNdqkK8 This is the only thing i`ve found it useful for :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/b361fXeCo9aUbrc

Great comments! You obviously have quite a bit of experience. It's nice to have you here on the channel, and I thank you for sharing your insight. The level of control possible in hydroponics and aeroponics is something I have mentioned in other videos, but this particular video is meant to be an intro - mainly intended for use by growers who are new to hydroponics. You could consider this video one of the "fundamental" videos. I'm trying really hard not to overwhelm new growers with tons of information. If you decide to check back here for future videos, you'll see that we will be going much deeper over time. This is just the beginning. I should also make it clear that system you see in the video is for demonstration purposes - but I agree that it looks great visually! :) It was never meant to be used to actually grow anything. I think I may have actually mentioned that in the video. In next week's video we will begin to build a simple aeroponic system that can actually be used to grow. Also, I will be covering the various ways we can take control of the grow, such as by using a pH / TDS meter to measure the actual nutrient solution, as well as how to make amendments to the solution on-the-fly - so stay tuned! Thanks again for your comments and links.

@@aero-gro I`ve been into aeroponics for quite a while, i run high pressure as well as air atomized (both siphon and pressure fed). As you are running more than one type of aero i guess you are already well aware that it can easily turn into addiction :) When i ran out of ways to improve the system control, i turned my attention to nutrient formulation which added another string to the bow. Its refreshing to come across someone who has to hold back to prevent informational overload. Looking forward to seeing your next video already :) Have a great weekend

Thanks for the tutorial brother, love your site. I’m sure your aware of the importance of AIR FLOW( circulation) when growing crops in containers. I’ve found computer tower cooling fans work wonderfully for DIY systems, also, bulk aquarium air stones and air tubing 👍🏻

if small droplet sizes are desirable, would one of those ultra sonic atomizers be a good idea?
@aero-gro
@aero-gro Жыл бұрын
The true "ultrasonic" spray nozzles manufactured by Aero-Science are amazing. The only problem is that they are becoming very hard to find. Something is going on with the supply chain for that product. Remember though - the video shows the "Hang-Ten" which is a low-pressure system, not a high-pressure system. To use the ultrasonic nozzles you need an air supply @ 45psi. That's a high-pressure system, which I cover in other videos. An alternative are the inexpensive stainless steel "ultrasonic" nozzles available on Aliexpress: shorturl.at/osVW0 They are okay, but are a bit louder than the AeroScience nozzle, and the droplet size is clearly not as small. I have no way of measuring the droplet size, but you can actually see with your eyes that the droplets are smaller on the AeroScience nozzle. If you want to check out the AeroScience nozzles, you can see them here: aeroscience.info/dry-fog-equipment/

Even wia self-priming pump you can help the pump by adding a check valve. This would keep the nutrient solution from draining out of the line effectively keeping the solution in the line.
@aero-gro

Yes! Great thinking. I use check valves on the larger systems, but have not needed them on these smaller systems. Not yet, anyway. I will definitely talk about that in an upcoming video. Thanks!

I was just reading nasa research done in orbit where it was discovered that optimal droplet size is 20-50 micron. Foggers can be 5 micron which is too fine for nutrient delivery. I have a mistking system that is about 50 microns when maintained.

As a side note, i was very keen at looking at the system you have on the shelves in the background as to pricing. Your page only links to a amazon store which is out of stock and doesn't show pricing. That needs improvement imho. Still very keen but i still don't know the cost after going from page to page to page. Friendly criticism if i may. Cheers from downunder.

This system is designed for the person who wants to learn about hydroponics and grow food at home. It is not intended to be used in a large-scale commercial grow operation.

It only spraying 360 because there no roots in it now. once the roots grow it will blocked the spay from spaying 360. Only one side will be spray while the other side stay dry.
@aero-gro
@aero-gro 11 ай бұрын
Yes - that's true - and that's the limitation of lower pressure spraying. The solution, of course, is to rotate the plant within the bucket. That is assuming the plant is in a basket and can be rotated freely. You would simply rotate the plant 180 degrees every week during at least the growth and fruiting stage. The advantage of a "dry fog" high-pressure system is that it overcomes that problem by filling the entire root chamber with fog, which reaches everywhere, thus promoting maximum root growth. Great comment!

No worries. I'll do a short video on a disassembly and deeper look at a few different pumps. As for those links - it's a bit of a "wild west" on Aliexpress when it comes to accuracy of information. I willl have a closer look at their listing and see if I need to choose a new supplier. Thanks for the heads-up!!!
