Thanks for this, I used this wiring diagram you put together last night on my ls400 and got my apple carplay stereo working like a dream with the factory sub! Thanks again mate

@Luke Seb Staniland , I'm so excited it worked for you! It's a nice little hack for those cars that don't have much aftermarket products like radio harness. 😅😁

U mentioned factory sub, was it giving the same power with an aftermarket player than it was with the factory stereo?
@nataliamiliano1503 жыл бұрын
@@NFGPodcast Ya it should. The amp is located underneath the shotgun seat, so if he didn’t bypass it, it should still send the same power to all speakers, including the sub.

@@CoverAllJoeyou know anything about the LS400’s with factory nav? I got a 1999 and I want to throw out the factory nav for CarPlay. Bought a climate control unit, but not sure wiring harness is same for factory nav units

You should consider making and selling these. No other company makes them. You would corner the market

I'm mostly done using this method, this video was super helpful. So far I have the deck powered on, all I need now is the correct factory wire to power up the amp so the speakers will come on. Do you remember which 1 it is?

I'm really interested in tackling this in a project I have because I like the Nak speaker components, but my head unit won't push the sub anymore. How was the sound output after the swap? Just wondering if there was any degradation at all to the clarity and loudness I love about the Nakamichi head unit.

Seeing that yours is a Nakamichi system, would this work for the basic premium pioneer system? Also did you manage to retain the factory amp & sub?
@CoverAllJoe4 жыл бұрын
@Drew007, it should work with any factory radio, because with this technique (taking apart the head unit) you'll be using the input and output sockets of the head unit circuit board, so direct plug in to the factory harness. Just make sure you have the wiring schematic of both the factory head unit and the aftermarket one. And yes, its running the factory amp and sub doing it this way! Buying a adapter harness kit is best option, but either its a rare find to get or like me, I Like DYI options (because im cheap)! LOL.

@WVRTHLXSS Ibarra Jr , That I've seen or heard of, there isn't any real plug and play options for the different type of stereo the first 3 generations of the LS400 came with. That's why I went this route. ✌

@@CoverAllJoe I do have the factory nakamichi system. My LS is a 1999. Did you connect the harness you made to the aftermarket radios connector? I can't really tell from the video.
@CoverAllJoe4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I used the aftermarket wire harness, I crimped the open end of that harness to the stock radio socket (female connector i took apart from the radio) thus making it a direct plug in to the LS radio harness.
@H2SO4H202 ай бұрын
Ridiculous video. First of all, the center vent assembly will slide out effortlessly without falling apart if one releases the internal clips on both sides of the vent assembly. Use two small screwdrivers to reach through the vent grills and pull both clips inward. It is NOT necessary to trash the Nakamichi head unit to install an aftermarket head unit. Using the Nakamichi audio system diagram I provided to him, a professional audio installer fabricated a custom interface wiring harness in about 30 minutes. He then installed an aftermarket Kenwood head unit using the Nakamichi amplifier and all the Nakamichi speakers including the subwoofer. Everything worked perfectly. The total cost of the installation in my long ago sold 2000 LS400 was $125 in around 2012 including fabrication of the custom harness but not including the Kenwood head unit and the fit kit that made the Kenwood look like it was factory installed. No wires were cut during the installation. I could have removed the aftermarket Kenwood head unit myself and reinstalled the Nakamichi head unit myself in about 15 minutes if I had wanted to. I ended up selling the 2000 LS400 in 2014 with the Kenwood in it and gifted the Nakamichi head unit to someone who wanted it.

How did you get the a/c vents to go back in place?
@CoverAllJoe3 жыл бұрын
@Squeaker , Sadly the vent's bracket broke so most of the vents has nothing to hold it in place, so I hot glued it in place until I find a replacement! I'm screwed! LOL 🙄😅
