@@Eclipsile can really go wrong with a Toyota/Lexus honestly. So depends what you want. Personally I chose the e38 over all those options. 4.4l v8 with 290hp but honestly seems like way more, especially in sport mode. Has alot of options including electronic damper control, ads. Etc. Probably the smoothest transmission I've ever experienced and for a v8 it is somehow good on fuel. I've had no issues in the 3-4 years I've owned it. Doesn't guzzle gas or oil. I could go on about why I'd choose an e38, hard to explain until you drive and own one. But an is350 would be sick too, I just like my v8 to much

I have a 1998 ls400. 111000 miles, drive it every day. You can easily see the quality of materials used to build this car. Nothing fades, head light covers are crystal clear, runs great and is even pretty quick. You don't feel any bumps on the road, ride is smooth as silk. Car was built to last. Very good for long trips, I find I can drive much longer hours comfortably than any other car I have driven. It's in a class by itself!! It has the 290hp engine and is much quicker than the previous generation. I have driven both and mine is much more powerful. I know 290 horse power doesn't sound like much but the car has great acceleration. Its a cruiser for sure and I really like this car.22 years old, daily driver and never has any problems. Can't ask for any better.

Hey, got your question. I had the timing belt changed at 10 years old… so in 2008. In hindsight I wish I had waited longer but at that time I didn’t know I was going to keep it this long. And as for the stabilizers , yes that was done about 3 years ago however I probably should have taken it to the dealership because I don’t think the better quality parts were used and the ride has changed to a tighter/bumpy feel.😕 I also had to have the bushings replaced years ago and that replacement part is already started to fail. Feel free to reach out if I can be of help.👍🏼

My grandfather had a 94 LS 400 and it's one of the finest vehicles I've been in to this day. V8, RWD, leather seats, snazy looking speedometers and gauges. I think James missed one of the BIGGEST things about the LS430. It's drag coefficient was 0.25. To put that in perspective, the McLaren P1 has a drag coefficient of 0.34, the LaFerrari at 0.30, and the Porsche 918 at 0.29. IN FACT, the Tesla Model S has a drag coefficient of 0.24. The Model X at 0.25, and the Model 3 at 0.23. The Lexus LS430 was produced in 2001. Over a decade before any of these cars. That is FUCKING INSANITY. I LOVE these cars so much.
@michaelharris8354
@michaelharris8354 2 жыл бұрын
The Lexus ls430 was Lexus pinnacle model hands down. It’s features we’re light years ahead of the competition and still relevant today, two decades later. The build quality is above and beyond any auto maker. The materials all just hold up. You actually have to go out of your way and treat these cars poorly for them to look even a little aged. They have such a neutral sophistication about their styling cue, that any person could get out of the drivers seat and you wouldn’t be surprised. Any other car almost always has a type of driver. Everyone who enjoys the best of vehicles would enjoy the ls430. Outside of the timing belt service every 100k, and regular oil changes, the ls430 is basically a maintenance free vehicle. Two decades later, and Al the electronics still work, leather is perfect, natural wood grains look amazing, and the ride is like driving my couch. Oh, and quiet…find me a car that’s quieter inside from factory then an ls430. It’s the best vehicle I’ve ever owned, and if I buy another vehicle, it will be another 430. Now the gens after that, sorry, they’re just not ass good. I’d roll with with an ls400 though. Lexus picked up where early 80s Mercedes’ left off for sure. Precision engineering with the highest quality materials, and something to be proud of. But planned obsolescence and greed made manufactured make things that would fail within 10 year spans.

There was one at one of those junk yards that you pick the parts yourself and it was so sad seeing it in pieces. People had ripped it apart, destroying most of it in order to get the one or two parts that they needed. For some reason what I remember most is that I could see that the wood paneling were real pieces of wood and not just thin veneers. You could tell they were all hand crafted and lacquered many times and a lot of work went into just these simple parts.

@@placeholdername3206 Toyota and Lexus are blamed that their cars don't have enough gadgets. I always tell those people that the reliability aspect is much more important than the luxurious aspect. Toyota gives you what you need but doesn't risk it by putting unreliable parts. Lexus also does the same but a bit extra. They put alot of luxurious gadgets but they make sure that they are good and they'll last for at least 10 years . Even a rich man will be annoyed of his car sitting broken at the garage.

Absolutely one of the most amazing cars ever made. I have always liked the Lexus LS cars. I like that engine so much, that it's my engine of choice for a swap. Smoothest V8, I have ever driven and the way it delivers power is unlike any other V8 out there. Yes, they aren't the most powerful V8's out there, but it's how they go about doing their job that makes them amazing engines. I also want an LS 400 as a daily car one day. (:

Honestly I think some of that smoothness needs to be attributed to the 4-speed auto. My old SC400 was awesome but I just felt it needed a manual, although I wonder how much of its luxurious character it would lose. Even though I had to part with it, it left a mark on me and I also want to make a proper build with a 1UZ, be it an SC or some A70/80 Supra.

I am sorry but that is actually a myth. The real story is lexus was going to be called "Alexis" first. However, at that time in the late 80's a show called Dynasty there was a girl villain character named Alexis so Lexus decided to drop the "A" in favor of "Lexis". Then the company was sued right before their first international launch by the company Nexis, because Nexis believed if the car company were to fail it would damage the Nexis name. So Lexis dropped the "i" and created Lexus. Source: I work for Lexus Corporate. Cheers!

No mention of the Gen 2.2? In 1998 the LS received 290hp VVTi engine and 5 speed auto trans dropping the official 0-60 to 6.3 seconds.(+a solid re-style) Had virtually exact drivetrain that was in the GS400 which was the claimed "fastest 4 door sedan in the world". I bought a 1996 and then a 1999. In the 96 I ran a best of 15.4 quarter mile while with the 99 I was able (in perfect weather) to run a 14.2 quarter at 99mph. A 1998 TV commercial actually presented it against and beating a Ferrari 308 in the 0-60. It is speed limited to 149mph with a realistic ungoverned top speed of 160+mph.
@larryzeldin7561
@larryzeldin7561 6 жыл бұрын
Lol 1998 gs400 was not the fastest sedan in the world,bmw 540i walked a GS400 all day everyday. I know that because I owned two of them,a 97 and a 99 sport. The 97 was a non vanos 4.4 V8 automatic and my 99 had vanos,it had the sport option and a 6 speed manual. From a dig GS400 never had a chance as long as I got a good launch but if i got to much to wheel spin on my launch then I was always left playing the catch up game and by about 70-80mph i would finally be neck to neck and start pulling away. Rolling starts from 30mph and above I would start pulling away instantly. The GS430 did better though. Bmw already had the 540i out as a 1997 model that went on sale in late 96 so when GS400 became available in late 97 as a 98 model there was already a 4 door king out there Those magazines that publish times and claim things are usually paid by car manufacturers to give good reviews and unrealistic times especially back then before the Internet days,they still do it today... you check 0-60 times for the same car and different magazines have different times. Driver,weather,conditions,tires and so many other things come into play also but regardless an e39 540i automatic wasn’t losing to an automatic GS400. The 430 did fair better but if the 540i had the sport option (different gearing) or a 6 speed manual then it was still not enough. Also,bmw released an M5 with 400hp in 2000 and had an E36 M3 in a sedan option from 95-99 that was advertised in magazines as the best handling car and it was even quicker to 60 then the 540i. Bmw invented the 4 door sports car so I’m sorry,as nice as V8 GS was it wasn’t as fast as it’s German competitors. It only beat them in reliability section,i wish back in the day that I did get the GS instead of the 540i because I went through hell with both my 540s

@@larryzeldin7561 I think both cars were very close although the BMW was definitely more sporty and as you said less reliable. That said the Lexus ECU needed to be driven HARD for it to deliver its peak power. My first trip to the strip I was BARELY able to get a 14.9 but I drove it hard several days and was getting 14.5-14.6 regularly after that. On Club Lexus not a single stock GS ever posted a quicker/faster ¼ time so maybe my LS was the fastest 4 door sedan 😉 Tum Tuned, good points! Kahonies2436 not sure what you are talking about… blown headgaskets? maybe on turbo/supercharged applications but stock? Never heard of that. The non VVTi 1uzfe did NOT make 300hp stock although with headers and aftermarket intake manifold they could. The original power rating was 250hp @ 5600rpm and 260tq @ 4400. Those engines did have stronger pistons, cylinder liners and connecting rods than the later versions and 10:1 compression with non-interference valvetrain. Most early cars dyno around 175hp to the wheels which IMO means a REAL output of around 230hp. In 1995 they had many revisions and a 10hp increase RATED but IMO was more like 30hp from 230 to the new 260.

I’m very fortunate to have driven one, dad used to own one for 18 years. The ride is silky smooth, seats super plush, the nappa leather so soft and age really well! Despite with 4 gears only the car just hoofs along, drives like a boat. To put in words it felts like a flying carpet! Quiet, smooth and floaty! As an car enthusiast from young I will never forget the experience from it, I even dare to say better built than today car standard.

Great video. The LS is built like a tank and drives like a dream. This car set the standard for all sedans in the '90s - reliability and luxury without the frequent visit to the dealership as compared to the other brands. Side note - second might be Honda with the Legend. I had bought a 1990 Lexus LS400 with burgundy interior and 80K miles on the odometer back in 2011. This thing was an amazing machine love it as much as my 2JZ Lexus GS and the tech for a 90's car is near equivalent to my 2017 daily driver. Lexus did a superbly terrific job on the LS perhaps someday soon I might be able to get a 2018+ LS.

Legend is like the corolla, Lexus is the Lexus. Can't really compare. Legend was a midgrade economy car dressed up as a luxury car, the Lexus was straight up new from the feet up. From the FEEEEET UUUUUUP!

BEST Japanese luxury sedan money can buy in America. A living Legend that you still see in the road today... usually the first vehicle a automarker makes is usually discontinued later on in life or replaced by something else but the LS is still being sold. Love the LS400 | Toyota Celsior, (surprised you didn’t bring the Toyota version up). I will own one of the LS generations one day. Maybe a 2008 600hL and I love the new sexy twin turbo 500 model with its sick motor. Toyota | Lexus makes the BEST Japanese sedans 💯

My dad used to own 2nd Gen LS400 back in 1995. It was so quiet, so smooth, so high-tech and so reliable that we had it until 2007. It was the most comfy car of my childhood.

@@osrs_sui They are just as fun. I've owned one as well. IF you are getting one make sure of a couple of things. plus Pro tip works with any toyota or Lexus that has this great engine! its a Beast. 1. Check the Power steering if leaking fix it fast it will kill your alternator because it sits right on top of it. 2. the Entire Water pump replacement no if and or but's replace this if the car has over 120,000k this will save you a headache. 3. Upgrade to a Supra radiator. Flows much nicer. or get a all metal/aluminum 4. I know the BFI mod is going ot look tempting.. dont do it save the headache and get a real cold air intake if your going for it. 5. Coilovers with 17-19 inch wheels 20 pushing the limit depending if you are going for a more sporty look. but this also improve handling. I believe you might be able to get away with getting supra springs as well but might want to research that again. 6. If you get the SC get the LS400 brakes so much better. 7. Replace vacuum lines with official or close to oem to save headache or you will be plugging a lot of holes Giggity! These are a start it gets fun lol but the first 2 MAJOR Hope this helps you an anyone else!

The E used by Mercedes stood for einspritzung, or fuel injection. In the late '80's MB wanted to categorize their cars so the E became a brand.
