So here's the story. I have been at stuck working at home for months, and I just needed to get away. So I booked a hotel an hour and a half from my house, and decided to make this video that I've wanted to make for months. Written, shot, edited, and uploaded from my hotel room.
The problem is that my primary camera right now is my cell phone. But I needed it as a prop. So I filmed most of the video with my action camera, and recorded the audio with my old cell phone. Sorry about the hissing; it's an older phone.
I'm not including dimensions on any of these stands, because it really depends on what kind of phone you have. Think of these as more proof of concept. You're welcome to ask any questions about them in the comments.
I know the audio and video don't sync perfectly, but it's 3 o'clock in the morning, and it's close enough.
The commercially made cellphone stand is called the Pocket Tripod, from Geometrical.

I expect the hardware store will have stiff hinges that are made to stay put. Using that, an adjustable wedge would be super simple to make.

Good thought. Yes, a stiff home would probably work. Phones don't really weigh much. I already had all this stuff laying around, so trip to the hardware store not necessary.

I cut a rounded slot at 70 degrees into a dowel. You put the phone in the slot and it holds fairly securely.

Howzit Paco. Still coming up with great ideas. Still remember your gorilla pod. PVC. Take care.

Thanks! I've mainly moved on from PVC to wood. I sometimes think of rebuilding my Multipod out of wood, but I haven't gotten around to it.

Actually, the aluminum bar was pretty cheap, and I think I just used a coping saw and needle files to shape the aluminum, which I already had. Even if I didn't, I could probably get everything I needed for 20 bucks, and then have tools and materials to use for future projects. And I'll have you know I do some of my best work while goofing off!
