Building my aluminium profile sim racing rig. I'm currently packing for a housemove later this month where I'll have finally have a mancave - and not a rig under the stairs! lol
Heusinkveld / Simlabs GT1 / JCL V2's were a little out of my price range, so I sourced my own aluminium profile and made one myself for way cheaper.

You do stuff a lot like me. I always have something to watch as I work on whatever my project is. Thank you for this video. I might try to build this because all the other tutorials I see are using wood as their material and I feel that this is a lot more sturdy than the other videos I’m seeing

Looks really nice and solid. I went the uber budget route and used some MDF I had lying around as a base and then 1.5" ABS for the frame with an MDF platform to hold the wheel, tablet, keyboard etc. Pedals are mounted to the base to they are solid. I added some 45 degree bracing to stiffen it up after I built it. Still has a small amount of flex but I can live with it for the

Fantastic, this is very similar to the GT1 rig. I'm not sure £320 such a huge savings over the grey GT1 which is €329.75 plus shipping (that's the real problem if you are far from the Netherlands) and comes with a really nice foot plate and wheel mount for direct drive bases. Not as important for a Logitech wheel and the mount you made seems pretty solid. Great job overall.

Great video. I saw your rig dimensions in the comments section and I thought I would see how much I could get this set up for. I found a company in the U.K. that will cut everything to size and supply all fixings for £250 plus shipping. Then I have to add an seat approx £140 to £200. So I could get everything to make this in the U.K. for about £400 to £450. Thank you for posting the dimensions. I had to guess a few of them but posting the main dimensions was very helpful 👍
@mattkeeber941
@mattkeeber941 5 жыл бұрын
£250 is a great price - a fraction of the cost of a simlabs or heusinkveld. I love the way profile is so adjustable too - I've been busy with work and haven't done an update, but the G920 is gone and I now run a OSW direct drive wheel as well as the Heusinkveld pedals. it's more than sturdy enough to handle the forces they produce.

Thanks for the video, I think i will go this route. How is the seat on long drives, is it comfortable?
@mattkeeber941
@mattkeeber941 5 жыл бұрын
Its firm, but not uncomfortable, it is a cheap metal framed seat so nowhere near as comfy as the fiberglass sparco I had in my track car... they were double the price though. (£400+) This is absolutely fine for gaming in, done plenty of 4 - 5hr stints in it. Had my budget stretched further, I would have picked something nicer up though.

How did you get the wheel attached it looks like you done some type of modification on the wheel mounting?
@mattkeeber941
@mattkeeber941 4 жыл бұрын
Nothing modified, the g920 has two (m8 I think) screw threads underneath, so used two corner brackets and a penny washer to thread the bolts through. The standard table grips just held onto the profile for some extra support.
@asambi69
@asambi69 3 жыл бұрын
Are those brackets standard fair? As a lot of the pre built systems seem to hype up those cast brackets as if they are proprietary to only there product?.
@mattkeeber941
@mattkeeber941 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t know for sure, but this stuff was labelled as Bosch Rexroth compatible, so while it was generic aluminium profile, the brackets were sized / spaced for seemingly a specific system type. Lots of the brackets had little notches on that would slide into the profile to stop the bracket moving/ twisting, however they were easy to snap off so providing the hole sizes were spaced correctly, I can’t see why they wouldn’t fit other manufacturers.

great idea and looks very sturdy, only thing is Aluminium profile is not cheap a 2m bar of 40x80 in may 2024 is £100 and look like you have a least 6m and the brackets and 40x40, be interested to see total cost on this

Chilled out dog I gots too say, Was wondering if it was a statue of a dog for a bit lol.. How much do all the alluminium an the bits cost all together, I got a play seat but the play in it is doing my head in, Going too upgrade from Logitech too fanatec after Xmas an I don't think the play seat will cope with more force feedback, So needs too upgrade my rig, I am debating if I should do this or just buy a next level racing rig, Either way you still got put it together, The cheaper plan is always the best, Sometimes that is lol, But yeah if you don't mind telling, How much is this too build???
