I followed Jag's instructions as stated in the video. I used a small saucer rather than a water bottle. It took about 24 hours for the ants to discover the Sugar/Borax solution. It started with one ant sniffing away at the solution. Eventually, they all showed and had a big ant party. Now, they are dead as door nails. Good Video! Good Solution!

Ants look for different types of food at different times of the year. Sometimes it's sugar, sometimes protein, sometimes grain. You can mix borax with corn meal & sugar to get both the grain & the sugar in one treatment. For protein, mix a very small amount of peanut butter with borax, fill bottle caps with it, & place something over them to make sure birds cannot get to it.

Ants will detect soap in Borax & will ultimately reject bait. I’ve tried entire market in every form, & ants ignored even free clean foods. Trial & error, but Borax or any KZbin home made “ant killer” in my USA valley never worked. 1 neighbor smuggled cyanide from his home country for rats , who chose to die in my garden causing fire ants invasion from their nest 2 homes away. I had to kill fire ants with commercial bait after removing dead rats & got bit by angry fire ants.

1. If you use a bottle on its side, place small holes in the bottle for the ants to get in (use a sharp hole poking tool) but not large anough for a bee to get in. 2. In it to the ground using a long U shaped wire (like that of a clothing hanger) around the middle of the bottle, so it doesn't blow away.

Awesome info and it worked! I just mixed up the liquid and the dry. The large black ants went nuts and quickly entered their tomb of death on the dry mix. I think I even saw an ant carry a large granule into the nest hole. There were quite a few ants in the dry mix container in less than a minute or 2! Not much interest in the liquid mix so far. I placed them right next to the hole and placed a cardboard box over the area with a brick holding the box down and the top of the box open for viewing and to let the sunlight in. This way my little dog will not get to the area and the wind will not blow away the bottles! Thanks Jag, Your the Man! Love your gardening videos. Very informative and to the point. Guess what, "learnt" is almost never the proper form of the word to use. When it is, it's generally the last word in the sentence. However, "learned" is ALWAYS acceptible, 100% of the time, even in the 0.0001% of cases where "learnt" is even correct. So just use "learned" instead. (Also applies to smiliar words like spelt.) There, now you've learned another thing.

Thank you. Woke up to lots of small ants on my kitchen counter, and I just made this bait (both dry bait & liquid bait) and placed it on the counter. Had a similar problem last year, and the ants were attracted to some cough drops I had in a cabinet. I would have never thought ants would go for cough drops, but they do! Update: The ants appear to be ignoring the water bottles, so I put honey in a bottle cap & mixed a small amount of borax into it, and the ants are going nuts for it right now, while ignoring the sugar/borax mixtures in the water bottles.
@billweirdo9657
@billweirdo9657 10 ай бұрын
If they ignore the bait you have 2 things that could be happening. 1 they could be searching for protein instead of sugar. Or more likely #2 too much borax is in the mixture. Honey mixtures work great you can make a sticky paste out of it and squirt it directly on a few surfaces. When you notice ants aren't coming anymore clean the surfaces and coat with a mixture of cinnamon oil and mint oil heavily diluted in water. It will have a repelling effect along with erasing any sugary scent residue.
@aquacat8
@aquacat8 10 ай бұрын
@@billweirdo9657 Thank you for the info. I believe these ants were only interested in sugar (they ignored the peanut butter bait). It took over a week experimenting with different ratios of honey-borax, and the ants are finally gone.

Recipe **you're welcome** 😁 (Liquid solution) Add to bottle: 1 tbsp borax 4 tbsp sugar (need to have AT LEAST 4x sugar to borax ratio so that it masks the borax taste) Add 1 quarter cup of water Close the bottle, shake it and be sure to mix really well (Dry solution- to kill the queen/larva) Add to bottle: 1 tbsp borax 4 tbsp sugar A couple of drops of water and shake until you have it mixed (even after adding water, compound should still be on drier side) • Cut a notch in bottle for the opening for the ants to get inside both bottles Place both bottles right by source of ants *if you have kids/dogs use glass Mason jar instead and poke holes in top of bottle for safety

Most 'flying ants' in the home are termites. Better get an inspection.

"How to kill ants"? is asking the wrong question. "How to get rid of ants", is the question to ask. I know this method works best for sugar ants, because I have tried everything. Sure, boric acid and other poisons with eventually work, but who wants to fight ants for 3-4 weeks to only have them come back next year. Not to mention using sweet tasting poison attracts thousands of ants. All you have to do is sprinkle comet on a couple ants and make sure they make a B-line running back to the nest. Ants are tenacious and determined creatures (I admire those trait in them), so even after coated them in comet they will want to continue on the scent trail leading to food. I used a straw to push them back and rub them in the comet pile. It took a couple times, but they reached their breaking point and made a B-line home. The next day I only saw a couple stragglers and since then not a single ant in my house in over 3 years. I have been watching and analyzing the behavior of sugar ants for over a decade when they came into my home the same time every year. I have seen them make large (1/2" high with sand, grass, sticks) barricades around poison I laid out, and they did it overnight. Ants definitely communicate and have a strong instinct to protect the colony from danger. I suspect that the comet drenched ants spread toxic powered on the scent trail and throughout the nest and that was enough to trigger the "barricade instinct", so the entry point was blocked off to my house. Also, maybe the comet covered ants communicated the torment they went through. If I never saw the engineering marvel (the barricade) these tiny little ants built overnight, I might not give them so much credit for their ability to communicate. Ants definitely communicate, so don't waste time trying to kill them. Just torment a few with comet and let them tell their story to the colony. Then they won't want to see you anymore than you want to see them in your home. I actually like ants, but not in my home.

I have them coming in my bathroom , sprayed there only a few come in there now . they are at my back patio , and which is neck to my bathroom window at the back of the house .. they have infested that area . I then saw them in my kitchen. I sprayed the windows and appliances. They then moved up the side of the house to the next window in my front room . I have put baby powder down, white vinegar, vacuumed them up , taken a toothbrush with dish soap and water to the grout “path” they travel . I caulked the windows and today is the first day I have not seen any in the house for the last month . i know they’re here just trying to find another point of entry. I live in Tampa Florida and on a golf course. It’s been raining every evening lately. Unfortunately now outside on the patio I can see them at the slider trying to make entry into the front room of the master bedroom (bathroom they started in is attached to this) I have baby powder over everything out here and they just keep coming the next day and I sprinkle it again . They are definitely not deterred . I’m trying this solution now . Any tips or advice is greatly appreciated!!!!

Works for sweet ants but not grease ants (like the dreaded "Thief Ant or Grease Ant". For this you need another type of poison such as Advion. Even that does not work great, but if you use small drops and keep at it, it will eventually eliminate the problem. Advion is the best solution i have found so far.

For any of you concerned about the dangers of using borax: borax is safer than table salt. It takes just about 2 tablespoons of salt to reach a lethal level for the average person but borax takes about 3X that. It’s a pet & child friendly solution to part control.

There’s warning ⚠️ labels on the package to be careful. Most important is to wear a mask when handling borax and not to breath it into your lungs.

You can use with the plastic bottle as shown or use any kind of a small dish and add borax + sugar solution. If ants are not taking the solution, increase the sugar ratio. Also watch this video on 10 Natural Ways to Get Rid of Ants: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mnqqhZmdib6fisk
