I love making these. I like to decoupage my paper to the cardboard backing as opposed to the mirror itself so I can change it out as I'd like. I also used stamps on the outer edges of the front of the glass to create an antique look. They came out really beautiful. Cool video! Thanks for sharing.

Hello, I am new to your channel. Delighted to have found this video because I want to create bespoke antiqued or distressed églomisè type ceiling mirrors for my small-ish upstairs bathroom and also my dark master bedroom (like this weird NNW facing windows on one side). Also, possibly for my little pretty 1/2 bath downstairs. I am psyched to watch your other video’s. Thank you for investing the time and energy into this wonderful tutorial. Your communication style is appreciated. It is effective and interesting yet not pedantic nor condescending. All the best to you, Dr Carla

Thank you so much for your feedback! I really appreciate it. Your idea for your bathrooms and master bedroom sounds great, I hope it turns out beautifully. I love the process of designing and executing home renovations, it's so rewarding. It sounds like you've got a great vision for yours.

It’s a year later from the previous comment, but I just found you too! New subscriber here! Nice work and calming voice! A great combo, especially today, since I feel overwhelmed with my house maintenance and decorating. I’m single, 67, and have been working in this house with two guests here that I wish would go home! My son has a tick borne infection and brain traumas, and my ex husband is recovering from a rotator cuff surgery, so I, at 4’ 9”, and 99 bs, and in chronic pain, am the only one who can or will do anything. I know. TMI, but I’m ready to cry, so I’m taking a break from heavy outside work, hurting my back even more outside, eating and looking at pretty things others have done in their backyard or anywhere. Thank you!

I recognize that this is an older video but hope that you can still answer a couple of questions for me! First, I wanted to verify that when you are saying mirror you are meaning that you started with a mirror and not a plain piece of glass? I have seen people use the mirror spray on plain glass to make give a mercury glass effect. I also saw a video where a woman used a window, sprayed with the mirror spray, did the vinegar step and then added the print she wanted to use, in her case a piece of printed rice paper, and then sealed the back. I have two old farmhouse windows that I have had for quite a while and would like to do something similar but wasn't sure if it would work on a window to start as opposed to starting with the mirror. I don't know if you have tried what I am suggesting so understand if you don't know but thought you might have some insight. Thank you so much. Deborah

I can absolutely answer that question! I started with a plain piece of glass, you can definitely use this method on an old window. The process would be the exact same. There are ways to turn a mirror in to a mercury glass looking mirror but it takes harsh chemicals and is a messy/ smelly process so I prefer to just use regular glass and the mirror effect spray paint. I hope that helps, good luck with your project!

Are you using a mirror or piece of glass ? If a mirror do you not have to stop the coating ? Thank you ! Beautiful design
@TheNiftyNester
@TheNiftyNester 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! It's just regular glass. Glass is easier to work with, to get this effect with a real mirror you have to use harsh chemicals to etch into the mirror finish on the back.

Thank you, they turned out great. I would have loved to have seen the finished products from a little further back, as to see the whole mirror and how it looked on the wall - it would have been helpful. nonetheless, fantastic!

Question...are you starting with clear glass? Can you get this look with a current mirror?
@TheNiftyNester
@TheNiftyNester 3 жыл бұрын
That's a good question! So I used clear glass, it's the easiest way to get this look. You can try on an actual mirror but it takes harsh chemicals and a lot of work to strip the finish from the backside of the mirror and depending on the mirror it doesn't always work very well. There are some tutorials out there though if you want to give it a try!
@keatssongwriter

Looks brilliant. But what makes it a mirror? Have you used glass and mirror spray paint or an actual mirror? And is this done on the back or the mirror or glass? Sorry if I’m being thick!

Does anyone know if I HAVE to spray in the black paint after the mirror paint OR A can I brush black paint on afterwards
@TheNiftyNester
@TheNiftyNester 2 жыл бұрын
You could brush the paint on if you prefer, just keep in mind that some paint sticks to glass (like spray paint) while others are more likely to chip off.

I love this look! Thank you; a couple of questions regarding the process (1) are you spraying the mirror spray and the vinegar solution at the same time? Also, I got confused as to which side of the glass you applied the mod podge for the fabric. Again, thanks!
@TheNiftyNester
@TheNiftyNester 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! To answer your first question, I tried spraying the vinegar water before and after the mirror spray and it works best to spray the vinegar water first then spray the mirror spray over that then use the paper towel to dab the areas off where the vinegar water is. I hope that makes sense. Secondly, I applied the mod podge on the back of the glass, on the same side that I applied the mirror spray on but after the mirror spray has dried.
@kathleenzeile5307

Thanks for your prompt response; you wouldn't believe how many people on KZbin don't respond! So...if I'm understanding, all of the processes are done on the back of the mirror? I just REALLY don't want to mess this up.
@TheNiftyNester
@TheNiftyNester 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! I try to respond to every comment. And yes, you're basically doing everything on the back of the glass. This should work on any plain glass, I just use regular cheap glass that comes in the picture frames.

I use a frame point driver, I just added a link in the description. You can get them with flexible or rigid points. In my experience the rigid points work best.

I think there should have been a bit more of the mirror spray. It does seem like Anthropologie's had more in the middle. Seems like you should actually be able to see spinach on your teeth if there is any, toward the middle. Gradually seeing more of the fabric or color wash around the edges. Thanks.

Thank you Liz! Yeah I wished there was more mirror effect on these, so I agree. I'm happy with how they turned out but have thought about giving it another shot, seeing how I could've done it a little differently. I'm always thinking of how I could improve on something.
