Great video! Just finished wiping the glass down on my 75 gallon and will be applying plasti dip to the back, bottom and sides. Also I wish plasti dip was $6 a can lol, it’s $25 a can here in Canada.

I have the black vinyl on my 55 and was annoyed that it doesnt always lay flat against the glass. I used this Plasti Dip on my 75 and it took a can and a half. I'm disappointed with the results compared to the tape on background the Plasti Dip it's not as deep of a black and it's flat black. I kind of thought the flat black would be better, but seeing it side by side, it is NOT. The only good thing is supposedly it scrapes off easily. I would stick with high gloss black paints or store bought background. Depending on what's behind your tank sometimes it's best to have no background so it adds depth and the fish seem more suspended in the air, so to say.

Good video Travis, love the idea with the Plasti- dip paint particularly with smaller tanks. I know that we as people will want to change the color after time goes on. Love the lights also so simple. Stay healthy my friend.

Have you had any issues with the plastidip peeling or scraping off when moving cords, hoses, etc.? I think I am going to do this, but also tape some paper or something on top to prevent cords from dragging across the plastidip.

Nope I've never had any issue with that

You need to peel the tape when it’s still a little wet, that will allow the dip to make a clean break. Then you won’t need use that razor blade, that can actually give you a bad break

Thank you very much for your helpful video. I was struggling to find a static cling background that wasn't a piece of junk, folded, creased or faded. Normally I'm not Mr. DIY but your video made it pretty easy to "paint" instead of stick. Just for reference I have a 55 gallon tank which is 48"x12.75"x21". I put on three coats, two passes per coat and I still had some plasti dip left in an 11oz can. Most appreciated sir!

Man, wish I had seen this just days ago before I tried rolling acrylic paint on the back of my tank!! I have a 65 gallon that is about six inches away from a window (full of Angels and Discus) and wanted to paint the back because the sunlight is creating algae blooms like crazy. It was a HUGE pain in the ass with such limited space, but I managed to carefully mask off all the edges and did three coats over the course of three days and it looked perfect! Started peeling off the tape today and it took about half the acrylic paint with it. So damn disappointing! Think I'm just going to buy a pair of heavy drapes for that window and be done with it!
@TrafishAquatics3 жыл бұрын
Damn that sucks, I had that happen once when I did the plastidip too because I let it dry too long before removing the tape and it had bonded to it. one thing is if you try the paint again after the third day just run a razor blade around the taped off areas to cut the paint that may be dried against the tape, this way it doesn't peel it off along with it.
@kentmccroskey81613 жыл бұрын
@@TrafishAquatics Yeah, think I'm going to peel the rest off and try again this weekend. Ha, that or just buy some thick drapes for that window!

Nice video! Thank you. Can I use a roller and Plastidip to roll it onto the back for a good effect? Or should I only use the spray type to get a smooth application? I know it doesn't matter with other paint types, but I am wondering about Plastidip in particular. Thanks for helping.

Plasti-dip contains a number of harmful organic vapors from the various petrochemicals in it. Please be sure to always wear a mask, even in an open area. The mask needs to have organic vapor filters, not just particulate filters. I've been doing some plasti-dip today and I've been rocking a 3M 7503 mask with the 6001 Organic Vapor cartridges. (Both available for < $50 combined). This will save your sinuses and lungs a terrible amount of abuse. Here's me rocking the face mask: i.imgur.com/5aeYBPV.jpg Happy Plasti-dipping.

Backgrounds on an aquarium is mostly personal preference, I like to use black backgrounds with goldfish because it contrasts their color as well as any green real or fake plants you may have in the aquarium very well.
