Amazing job ReefSpy!! Congratulations I was wondering, Where do I can get a copy of the codes and scripts that you use for this, as well as the material list

Love the progress, looking forward to having a shot at making my own at some point in the future! One idea for the heater controller is to have a minimum time between the heater turning on/off just in case you want to keep the on/off temperatures a bit closer together down for more sensitive corals.

Beautiful thing youre doing! I just stumbled across your channel on my search to further automate my life. The beauty of your backend architecture is the compatibility with openhab as a cloud/remote access and control through amqp. Really looking forward to getting my hands on all of the code and circuit designs you have. Subbed!

Bummer about the expensive probe - hopefully someone at BRS finds out about it! I loved this video! Why? Not because I’m really enjoying the evolution of the Spyberry Pie. Not because a deep-down part of me loves this type of automation and I don’t trust Apex. Not because I completely understand the hours and hours that have gone into getting this far and I understand how obsessed one can become. None of these! It’s because my kitchen always looks something like that!! Masses of cables and boxes and powerheads and 10 gallon tanks all over the place! YESSSSS! Validation! 😳

FYI those aren't step down transformers but rather a buck converter which is a type of switching power supply. Amazing work though..

Which salinity probe are you using? Did it come with the controller board ? havent found any for under $150
@ReefSpy4 жыл бұрын
The probe is made by Apera. I’m using it with a controller board I got from DFRobot. Unfortunately its still not a cheap combo. Good quality salinity probes are expensive.
@Andreas-gh6is4 жыл бұрын
How much better do you think the expensive probes are? Also: In terms of ADCs I can recommend the ADS1115 boards from China. Much cheaper, smaller and easier to use, have 16bit resolution, programmable gain, negative voltage and differential measurement and you can set the sps to 16 to make filtering easier. I think I will use that one when I start mucking around with these probes.
@ReefSpy4 жыл бұрын
Cool, I will look into that ADC, thanks for the tip. All I can tell you about probes is that I initially used a cheap $8 pH probe from eBay. It was not very reliable. Although I could get it to calibrate perfectly, it would quickly give me inconsistent results over time. I switched to a more expensive probe and I got more consistent results. I'd recommend the cheap probe only for development, but once you start using your controller on a real system, buy a better probe.
@Andreas-gh6is4 жыл бұрын
@@ReefSpy how do you know the results where inconsistent? Did you measure a drift with respect to calibration fluids? Did the more expensive probe keep the consistency over the same time?

Great work. Did you find the ph probes giving inconstant data? I can’t decide wether I need a double junction prob or not.
@ReefSpy4 жыл бұрын
I found my cheap eBay probe gave inconsistent data. I used both double junction and single junction probes from Bulk Reef Supply and they gave much better results. Also make sure the probe circuit is electrically isolated or else you can get erroneous results.
@modelrailwaytheeasyway97434 жыл бұрын
ReefSpy so would running the voltage supply from a separate buck convert be the best way to go and just have the ground connection with the pi be the way to go. I also found that when I take the reading in the tank I get more fluctuations which I take it’s picking up stray voltage. So thinking it would be better to come up with a dosing pump putting water into a container over the sump which will then empty back in to the sump after a test. But will try some better probes first.
@ReefSpy4 жыл бұрын
@@modelrailwaytheeasyway9743 I'm not sure. I used an Analog Signal Isolator circuit. It seemed to work for me. Check out DFRobot.com Thats where I got mine.
