The mounting side should be able to raise up at different level since 99% of poeple using roof rack also use the storage space it procures. Having the awning go straight from the mounting point and across doesnt allow you to keep some taller stored items in the rack. Like the project very much and will follow up on it! Good job!

Yes. True. If you have a roof basket or things already on the roof, you may not want to pull the tarp over them, you can simply pull the tarp out of the tube from whatever side it's mounted on. In my case I am carrying a canoe, so at camp, I wont have the canoe on top, and can enjoy the option of pulling the tarp over the roof to shade it. It is a flexible design allowing various options for set-up. Thanks for the feedback.

Maybe I'm just too simple thinking but I just use a 10 x 12 tarp set up with poles, guy lines and stakes and back my JKU to one side under it. I set up my cooking and lounging under the tarp and roll out my bedding in the back of the jeep. If it's too cool or cold weather I climbed in bed and shut everything up leaving my rear windows cracked to prevent condensation. If it's cool to warm weather I add my door window screens and put on a diy screen made for the back window with screen and velcro.

That’s very good thinking in fact. I use the Hasika tarp that way, and I find that it offers me a little more ease of use as well as other options for set up. Can’t wait to see how it works out. I tried and gave up. Could not keep enough tension with a standard tarp on the three tent poles to hold it level. Maybe with a much lighter weight type of sun shade material but that adds cost. I was trying to use tarps I had.

Your content is extremely helpful! In watching the piece to tie to the middle of the tarp in the case of it being folded; I've often used a small round rock (maybe the diameter of a quarter). I place it on the underside and wrap the tarp around it. Then from the top side, I tie my cord around the tarp - wrapped rock and I'm ready to secure the other end of the cord. (it's also a good back up to torn grommets) Thank you for sharing your ideas and concepts, they are inspiring.

@@CheaperJeeperTV Just doing a real basic removable tarp awning... Honestly never even though about bringing it over the top of the vehicle (Great for getting at cargo stuff in the rain) and then also extending it back. I made a telescopic awning base from PVC.
