I think in some cases you might not be able to take the dress off, if you sew the skirt on like this because while the fabric stretches, your seam will not do so. If you pull it down over her butt and hips a tight seam can rip. It would be safer to have the bodice a bit longer and the skirt a little lower where the circumference of the doll is the highest. Can anyone confirm this theory?

You could potentially use a flexible thread, like Maraflex, to give the seams a bit of stretch.
