The oak frame is complete for the barn end and once again I fail to construct it!
Alex recaps the past episodes and highlights the progress of the construction work.
00:00
Alex deals with the stressful delivery of 8 tons of Oak wood, which takes 3 hours to unload.
01:04
The delivery truck encounters difficulties and causes damage, leading to a stressful situation.
01:55
Despite the challenges, the wood is successfully unloaded and brought to the construction site.
03:08
Alex expresses concern about the accuracy of the wood order and the potential for mistakes.
03:28
The video features a subscriber shoutout to someone in Nashville, Tennessee.
03:44
🔨 The video shows the process of building a barn, including making lower struts and legs, and working with large pieces of wood.
03:58
🔨 The video shows the process of creating a corner joint with a tenon, using tools like a mortiser and a reciprocating saw.
08:29
🏗️ The video shows the process of cutting and assembling wooden beams for a construction project.
11:57
⚒️ A KZbinr discusses the process of constructing a timber frame structure and addresses concerns about safety and assembly.
15:26
⚒️ A woodworker is assembling a piece of furniture and testing the fit of the mortises and tenons.
18:56
🔧 The video shows progress on a construction project and promises future updates.
FYI: Alex embarks on ambitious building projects. Whereas most builders rely on proven skills and experience, Alex prefers a potentially calamatous combination of optimism and youtube-based research.

Hello Alex, Nice work for a non trained chippy. RE: the tear out on the mortices, turn the machine round so it cutting down at the edge of the mortice... also you could make a large wooden MAUL , out of the offcuts to drive the joints together.. MAUL: a large wooden mallet.. Keep up the good work.. David, Norwich Norfolk, UK..

Alex, let us know when to expect an update, and thanks for the 2 episodes so close together! You are right, the last one was great on its own. Also, this one could even have been shorter (8 min+ for ads I hear..) and I would still watch it. Just give us something to look forward to each week. One afternoon of work may suffice a weekly episode

Hey Tyson Thanks so much for doing that - do you think it'll help? In any case I'm going to add it in! Maybe I need to chill out a bit but I always believe that we need to have 'complete' episodes to get new viewers interested. Anyway, loads is going to happen in the next month or two and so I'm confident I can get episodes out every 2-4 weeks (as opposed to every 2-4 months!)

Great video Alex, as always! Regarding the tear out from the chain mortises, could you screw down a sacrificial board (mdf,plywood etc) over the top of the cut and plunge into that? That way the oak underneath would be protected and not have room to ‘tear out’. Just a thought, feel free to dismiss if it’s daft!
@AlexBuildsUK
@AlexBuildsUK 10 ай бұрын
Yes good idea, although you'd need to press it down pretty hard. That said, I cut a load of footage (briefly summarised in closing frames) where I figured it out... I was just too close to the chiseled out line. Cheers for the comment 👍
@Beef4Dinner22
@Beef4Dinner22 10 ай бұрын
@@AlexBuildsUK You might be able to flip the chain mortiser around halfway through the cutting. You cut half the mortise with it facing such the chain goes down into the wood on the edge and is tearing out wood near the middle of the mortise, then flip it around and cut the other half of the mortise is the same manner, with the chain going down on the edge and up in the middle. The tear out sections will meet in the middle of the mortise and entirely disappear since all that wood is getting removed. It would likely add some extra setup time as you need to set up the chain mortiser twice per mortise, but it could help with the tear out issue. Cheers from across the pond in Raleigh, North Carolina.
