So satisfying to watch. My husband and I built a shed and a small house timber frame. We have cleared and will be starting the Barn in the Spring. We are a couple of old New Englanders. 60 and 67 respectively. Keep up the fabulous work.

Good morning everyone!! Oh man some day I would love to take your courses on how to timber frame. I love the look and the history of this type of building. Sure beats stick framing!!!! I have a bandsaw mill and have cut Timbers to do an extension to my work shop. I won’t be doing the mortise and tenon build just some lap joints and timber lock screws. Should be a serviceable storage area. Thank you all so much for what ya do! God bless you all !!

Such an amazing video, the whole series of this one is amazing ahah and such a great team spirit lol. What are you using to fix the post to the concrete, looks like a pressure treated block fixed to the post but then how is that fixed to the concrete floor/sill. Expected to see the ABU

Just curious how you compare working with the hemlock compared to Doug fir
@ShelterInstitute
@ShelterInstitute Жыл бұрын
We find them equally difficult to work. We have noticed that green hemlock becomes incredibly hard to slick if you rough out your mortises the day before. Slick your mortises immediately after roughing them out with a chain mortiser.

hi again, great video. Can't wait to see the rest. What thickness floorboards are you using to span the floor joists as they look about 3 - 4ft apart? i'd still love to do your course, but the cost of coming from the uk to do it is way out of my league and even the online course is currently out of reach due to the UK cost of living crisis.
@ShelterInstitute
@ShelterInstitute Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! Our floor joists are 3ft on center and the decking is nominal 2 x 6 tongue and groove.

Yes, that would be interesting. We are planing on building a timber-frame (kind of a hybrid) and we checked into the SIP and I can tell you that they are expensive! We go with spray foam with is quite pricey too but still quite a bit less than the SIPs.

I'm curious, do you have to tarp the entire structure each night overnight until you have it completely sealed, since it's essentially built from the inside out?

I believe the whole structure is tied together once the SIP panels are installed, I'm sure in later episodes of this series we'll see that detail.

Please, don't show compressed air being used like this in your videos! I did it for years and will still do it on my own projects but maybe blow piles of wood chips if the video editor wants action shots like that. Table 1 requriments if you know what I'm refering to. Love your videos and other than that, keep up the great work!

Lovely timber construction. Shame about the polystyrene in-fill. 👹 Do you know that every little white particle of that shit takes 500 years to break down. Worst inorganic insulation ever made.

I didn't make it through. Much prefer the video style of the Martha's Vineyard series, with Gaius narrating. This is just annoying site chatter from the team, who we don't know. The rest of the videos are certainly in the can but hopeful the direction changes.
