This is the first time for Roseth and Dejo to make belt sander. It takes a few days to make it. It is not working very well yet and they need your idea to share with them about how to make it work properly and how to connect the sander paper to use with it.
Please watch and share your idea.
Thanks

Every maker needs to see this. A true showcase of the skill set capable from a talented craftsman. Guys I've lived in Cambodia. In a village a few towns over for where Roseths shop is. This is the 3rd world. People are dangerously poor there. The government is ABSOLUTELY corrupt and maintains little sovereignty, it can barely collect tax. I'm a 1st world mason changing 1$ a brick and can buy the best tools on the market. What these guys do every day is strait up incredible. Excellent work Roseth, I wish I was half the tradesman you are.

You are one of the first blacksmiths in Cambodia to use a belt sander. Can’t wait to see you shaping and sharpening more of your blades with your new powerful tool in the coming videos

it is not working well yet. we don't have the glue which is good for joining the belts.

Put some rubber pad from rubber tube on drive pully and use some spring with more tension, and upper driven pulley must adjustable .becouse when belt going tracking then you should adjust pulley angle .anyway congrats for belt grinder

So glad you finally made one of these. You REALLY need to strengthen that thing up and tighten the belt up a bit more. You need it mounted well and make it sturdy, all the vibrating and wobbling around keeps if from sanding as well as it should. That grinder should turn that peice of wood into dust in about 30 seconds

You might need a stronger tension spring and it looks like it is working but you didn't put in a way to track the belt. It also looks like you could use some strengthening supports on your belt backing platen and the table. Nice job, a little tinkering and it will be there.

The wheels should be slightly convex to help center the belt in. Also, consider adding another wheel to spread the forces on the belt more evenly. Yours look like it has a lot of slack, needs more tension.

Looks great... Looks like there might be some flex in the main frame plate. You can tell by some movement in the platen behind belt as you grind a piece. Also check that the main drive roller is centered true on the shaft as it spins, and not lopsided...

Nice work, as a knife maker I have built several 2X72 inch grinders over the years and the first thing I notice is your platen is pushing too hard against your belt as this slows the motor and creates excess heat, it should just barley be touching the belt!

The spring tensioner for the belts is great. However if you add something to lock it in place it will reduce the belt vibration/movement

I would say to make a cement platform and bolt it down to that platform to reduce the vibrations which is causes your material to jump around making the structure that it stands on more stable will allow you to produce better finish on your materials
