@@thejungleexplorer great video! my Samsung washer is definitely making the screaming bearing noise during the spin cycle, but it is also extending the wash time and getting off balance and not spinning. Even with tiny kisses. Do you think that could also be related to the bearing or is it most likely the spider bracket or something else expensive??

I want to say that this video gave me exactly what I needed to tackle the project. I diagnosed the bearings going bad and I searched you tube for the issue to get help. When I had contacted a repair company they told me that it would be $500-550 to repair. I spoke with my wife and we decided that we would order the $85 bearings and I would get it done. 6 hours including a deep scrubbing and cleaning of all the stainless steel and the tub (unbelievably grimy after 4 years). Successfully repaired and I have this gentleman’s video to thank for it.

Just completed this job, and this is a fantastic guide. I'll add one big thing - The drum is HEAVY. You WILL need someone else to help lift it to release the springs. I ran a steel pole across the top of the cabinet and tied it to the drum lift point, similar to the video. I had a friend help me lift it out of the cabinet and help put it back in. I do also agree with others who said take the extra step to remove the stator winding from the drum to keep it protected while removing the bearings from the drum. It is a super fast step. Last addition, the bearings are tight but will come out without adding any heat - just take your time. Putting the new bearings in the freezer for a couple hours helps, and use the old bearings to seat the new ones. This job will take a full day, especially if you take the time to clear out all the soap residue like I did, and quadruple check every hose connection.

This was a phenominal video and I have revisisted it many times. Wow! It appears you still answer questions on this video! I watched this video several months ago then took it upon myself to order the berings and replace it. Worked great.....to a point. It appeared that the drum wasnt' quite seated right and made other notises. I stopped using the unit for 6 months as I had a washer / dryer at the cabin. Digging back into this now - the drum is not spinning. So now not only do I have questions on the orientaton of the drum seating (could there be a strut issue??), I also have questions on why after months of no use, the drum appers to not be spinning on the cycles.
@thejungleexplorer9 күн бұрын
Hi. Thanks for commenting. I am glad my video helped you out. As far as your new issues, it is quite difficult to assess without physical inspection. From your comment, it appears that something did not go right during the bearing replacement. If the spider arm was damaged, this could have led to the tub misalignment, which could have led to wobbling during the spin cycle, which could have led to breakage. If you can hear the motor engage, but nothing is moving, this could mean the tub is jammed. Why it is jammed, is the question. Try turning by hand. If you cannot move it, then the search starts for why this is. It could be that due to the misalignment, the bearing seal failed leading to water getting into the bearings, and they are now rusted solid. Wish I could help more, but it is all guess work without getting my hands on it.

Thanks so much for the great video. I watched it once and then took notes. My first Samsung crapped the bed after only 3 years. I was told that it would cost as much to repair it as a new one. Bought a new one in 2020. 2 years to the date of purchase the bearings went out. Sounded like an F-16 taking off in the house. Warranty I have did not cover the bearings. Repair guy suggested to buy new instead of fixing. Did some research, found a guy online that sells the bearings. Ran across your video while doing more research. Easy to follow. Ordered the bearings on Wednesday, they were delivered on Saturday, replaced the bearings today, (Sunday). Not the quickest repair job, (about 8 hours), but no injuries or left over parts, bolts or screws. Thanks again

I'm a mechanic so I thought I'd give it a try. The Samsung washer came with our new house. Turned out the previous owner forgot to mention the bearings were destroyed. The drum wouldn't even spin. 😏The bearing closest to the motor just fell to pieces on disassembly. To get the outer race out of the drum we had to weld a bead to the bearing shell and then drive it out. But the repair worked. $25 in parts saved me $800+ for a new unit. Thank you for the video!

Great tutorial. This really helped me get my 10 year old washer back up and running. Now she purrs like a kitten. If I could just add my 2 cents: 1) @ 7:50 4 more screws must be removed to free up the wiring harness. 2)Remove the motor windings after removing the motor housing. This reduces the chance of damaging the windings and reduces the drum weight for easier handling. 3)Don’t forget to add loctite on the drum bolt, the stabilizer bolts (4) and the door screws (2). Removing the bearings was a challenge. After letting some lubricant soak in for a while and having no success with a hammer and a ⅜ extension bar I switched to a 3lb sledge hammer and viola! What a difference! Replacing the door boot retaining wire was a bitch. I ended up installing about ¾ of it, used 3 clamps to hold it in place and then a couple of flat screwdrivers to massage the rest in. I used a hockey puck to seat the rear bearing. Definitely one of the better videos for repairing a washer. Keep it up!

I just completed this job yesterday on my 4 year old Samsung washing machine, it took 4 hours and a good selection of explicatives. The inner bearing race had actually broken off a chunk and the bearing was seized solid in the drum carrier, cheaply made junk. I used CRC "Freeze Off" and a BFH with a brass drift to get the bearings out as heat is not an option. I used the old bearings to drive in the new bearings and seal, make sure the new bearings are fully seated. As others have said, put the new bearings in the freezer for a few hours first. If this happens again, I will only need one tool to fix it - a hand cart.

Thanks to this video I saved my washer! The instructions on getting the bearing out and in was very helpful. I wasn't sure it was the bearing from all the videos that shared what it sounded like I said, nope not me. But that's because this washer has been sounding like a ufo taking off in the family room since we bought the house 3 years ago. Now it's so quiet. My conclusion is that the bearings were out then. When I cracked it open the inner ring and the bearings just fell out. I had to use a Dremel to cross hatch the outer ring enough that I could hammer it out. Took a LONG time but oh oh the sweet (no) sound of success! Thanks for saving me tons of money and giving me tons of badass cred!

Mine was a later model with a few differences and was easier eg: external motor so the housing was very simple. I had an old over sized socket set and found a 1 and 7/8 socket with an outside diameter of 63mm (so large) was ideal for tapping in the larger bearing and water seal. My machine is now fixed but it did take me 7-8 hours. Pro tip, make sure the bearings are tapped in all the way I could tell the larger inner one was not fully seated when I tried the pully wheel and tightening the nut will not pull it together, had to remove the water seal and tap the bearing in another 2-3 mm. This video inspired me to give it a go, cheers from Brisbane Australia.

Okay then, I'm gonna give it a go. The appliance repair guy said it wasn't worth repairing, the same price as a new machine,,, okay, fair enough, but the washer and dryer are a matching set, its almost impossible to find the same kind- size-finish of washer now to match neatly next to the dryer. And so repair guy charges $115 for the 5 minute assessment, and I'm thinking the bearing is some massive $300 piece,,, and its almost laughable watching the video, and I'm thinking "what the hell, completely dismantling the machine, I'll never be able to get it back together, I'm gonna break so many of the tiny seals and clips, this part had better be a big deal" ,,, and then the jackpot is this tiny piece! So, gonna give it a go, if this works, I will be the most surprised guy in creation!

Good instructional video - thanks. A couple of tips: remove the stator - just mark it first so you know how to align it when you replace it. If you cut or even tear the insulation on one of those wires, it will fail and the price of a new stator is crazy. Also, never use a hammer directly on a bearing - you can easily damage the bearing if you slip and hit the seal or the inner race. Use a block of wood against the bearing and tap the wood with a hammer. The wood is much more compliant and still does a great job of seating the bearing.

Great video and breakdown of how to take everything apart. I think you did gloss over how much work it would be to get the old bearings out. I am at about an hour of pounding on the inner bearing and it doesnt look like its budged. Any suggestions if it should be easier than that? Update: I am up to about 3-4 hours of pounding on the inner bearing with nothing, I also left it overnight with penetrating oil around the outside of the ring. Another update: got the old bearing out, it took an insane amount of effort. Is the silicon grease necessary?
@thejungleexplorerКүн бұрын
Yeah, those old bearing can be a bugger to get, especially if they have rusted to the wall. It did not take me that much work to get my bearing out int the video. Not that you ever want to go through this again, but if you encounter something like this in the future, here is a tip that may help. Metal will actually contract if it gets really cold. Equally, it will expand if it gets really hot. In your case, you needed the bearing to contract to make it easier to get out. Freezing the bearing with something like liquid nitrogen, propane, or even a can of air duster (used upside down to squirt out liquid), can get it cold enough to cause the bearing to contract a little. If you are trying to get a bearing off of a shaft, you would need the bearing to expand in that case, so you would need to heat it up using a propane torch. Just a tip for the future. I hope you had a great Christmas, and I wish you all the best in the New Year.

I would find a large socket to tap the outer race in or a block of wood. I do have large sockets for different wheel bearing hubs. some hub nuts get crazy big!. Then you get a nice even seating of the bearing so as not to accidently smack the inner race while seating it. Nice video! Looks like I have my work cut out for me! I just retired on 6/30 and now I have time to attack this! Are most Samsungs done the same? I have a model wf218anw/xaa

Thank you. Your video was extremely helpful. We replaced the 4 shocks too. Now that we have the washer back together, there is a wobble when the spin is winding up or winding down. It seems the stainless wash tub moves up and down, making a knocking noise. We can lift the stainless wash tub away from the plastic tub about 1/8". The spindle does not appear to have any damage to it and a spider arm is without cracks or damage. Any thoughts and how we can fix this? Thank you.

I have the same problem after changing spider, bearings, seal and shocks. I have a bit vertical play (2mm) on the drum making a knocking noise when spinning from 300rpm to 1600rpm. The knocking is audible when fast spinning with an empty machine also. Did you find the problem?

Do you think it’s worth fixing mine? My tub has a crack in the plastic tub close to the barring insert…what do you recommend? Epoxy?
@thejungleexplorer5 ай бұрын
My rule of thumb is, "If your only option is to get a new one, then it does not matter if you break the old one trying to fix it." In other words, if you try a fix and it doe snot work, you have not lost anything, since you have to get a new one anyway. As far as the cracked tub, you could try epoxy. It may work. It is hard to tell. You may try to find another tub. People are always getting rid of washers with perfectly good tubs because the bearings went out. I hope this helps.

great video and tutorial for ripping apart the samsung FL washer! i have fixed the samsung dryer before and it is MUCH easier the washer is quite an ordeal. Ripped all the way down to the bearings to replace them only to find out the spider flange assembly was complete disintegrated and turned to mush. unbelievable to me that this METAL component can deteriorate that badly to point of axle being ripped completely free from the assembly. no longer makes sense to keep this washer so guess i'm getting a new one black friday!

Thank you. The video is very thorough and extremely helpful. Our front loader makes the same loud sound AND the spin does not completely drain the water. In fact, the spin cycle may not make a complete circle - but go back and forth on half spins. The load may finish after several UB attempts (6 hours) but the clothes are still wet. Agree that we need a barring kit. Do you think another part needs to be replaced?

Rubber sealed bearings (2RS) are the ones you want for this application. Selling a machine with metal shielded bearing in an environment with risk of contamination by water is planned obsolescence by Samsung. The rpm of a washing machine is way too low to melt rubber seals so there is absolutely no reason not to provide these machines with rubber sealed bearings. Thanks a lot for the good explanation!

Very helpful video. I am replacing the spider and since it is all hunker up I will replace bearings and seal while I have it all apart. A tip - I used my pressure washer on the tub innards and the in tee tub also. Had it all spotless in a few minutes and the gunk cannot get onto clothes.

Excellent video, I’m a tech I’m have done those repair . A few points here. The spider given the age, you should have replaced it, the bearings, an insulation tool helps and less impact on the race. You did great with the silicone, but totally forgot the grease. The grease protects the seal from the shaft damaging it during installation and the rest of its service life. The bellow, you didn’t have to remove it. Anyways great job

@@thejungleexplorer Yup thats what I'm thinking. I kept my old washer though, so we have that. Our old washer is a top loader and a little too small for the biggest blankets we have, which was why I got the samsung washer for free off facebook. Since I have a way to wash clothes, I will probably take it apart again and see whats going on. Like you said probably the seal failed again, although I did replace the seal last time, who knows.

Excellent video and extremely helpful thank you - wanted to comment on the bearing - just put a piece of wood on top of the bearing and hammer on the wood to seat the bearing
@thejungleexplorer Жыл бұрын
Thanks for commenting. I did not show it in the video, but I tried using a piece of wood first. The force needed to drive the bearing in was too great. I beat a 2x4 to pieces and never budged the bearing. One commentator suggested putting the bearing in the freezer overnight. I think this is an excellent idea. It should cause the bearing to shrink, making it easier to install. Using the old bearings to hammer on is another option.

Getting ready to attempt this same replacement … inner and outer bearings … anything else I could replace while I have it apart to make my washing machine last longer or sound quieter? Shock absorbers maybe?
@thejungleexplorer2 жыл бұрын
The bearing are about the only thing that wears out. If the tub seal looks worn, it would be a good idea to replace it.
@timault82092 жыл бұрын
It's not uncommon for one or more of the shock absorbers to fail. Consider replacing these as well, though forewarning: they are pricey, the front and rear pairs are different, and best practice is to replace all at the same time.
@tinyku2 жыл бұрын
I did this a year ago, and basically 3 days short of one year, the bearings failed again. I did change the seal and the bearings. When I was in there the spider arm also had holes in it. So I changed the bearings, the seal, and the spider arm assembly. Everything else was fine though
