Hi Kirk, I completed this repair this summer 2021 just before a big trip out west with my brother. It was not a fun job, but did allow me to clean up that part of the motor that had accumulated oil vapor for several years. The original breather tube was slightly cracked but not horrible. As you suggested I replaced the fuel injector o-rings while doing this job as you'd suggested in your video. With all the tupperware off for this job I did several other jobs like the O2 sensor, shifter linkage grease, clutch fluid replace, and air & fuel filter replacement. All things you have videos on which I've watched and learned. Thanks for sharing.

I am glad I replaced mine when I had it apart for the cutch replacement. Had almost everything out of the way already. I also made up my own manifold as the OEM one is crap and won’t last long and costs a fortune. I made a manifold from copper pipe and soldered barbed fittings to it and commented it to the crankcase fitting on the right side under the frame. I then ran 4 separate rubber hoses from the manifold fittings to the throttle bodies. This made a clean solution and now I can easily replace any of the hoses that may go bad in the future with standard readily availability hose.

Every time you do a repair video on the LT my bike breaks down with the problem. I don't know whether to thank you or blame you. I do know that with out your help I would have had to retire my bike a long time ago. Good job.

Could i tip you about the O rings, either you use the same again ore you put on new ones. I always put a small amount of grease on the O rings on all engines whith Gasolin ore diesel nozzels before mounting them back. Its easier too get the O rings back in place, and you do not got issue whith the O rings too sqeese or twist on the way back in place. Thanks Kirk for an informative video, helped med a lot on the same job on mine LT 1200 2008 this vinter.

My 2001 has been covid sitting a while. Took it out for nice exercise, running nice as usual, then after about an hour, and a couple of stops, now has that feel of a poor performing fuel injector. Just the thought of, once again, going into the abyss, you gotta work yourself up to the task, the challenge. Not just the task at hand, but the old, brittle things that are going to break along the way. I am not having this particular problem, ATM.

I did this job on my 2005. Huge PITA job. I ended up making my own vacuum manifold with copper pipe and copper nipples. It really wasn't that hard and it was never going to go bad again...and then I totaled the bike 2 years later. :(

What about changing the intake manifold hose connectors for the throttle bodies? I've seen where the front of the motor and radiator have to be dropped.

Kirk, for the K1200lt, Have you ever had avideos that show replacement of timing chain cover seal or oil/water pump seal? I've developed a very tiny leak towards the front of the engine and might need those in the near future. If you have one, I'd appreciate the titel so I can go over what is needed.

Great video. Just wondering if you might have some input on what could be wrong with my BMW K1200S, 2008. After riding this morning for about an hour, I came to a stop. Bike stalled but started right back up but ran rough. Then, slowing down for another stop, stalled again. This happened twice. There’s a very strong smell . Maybe electrical? This is my first BMW, so I don’t have a clue where to start. Thanks. Appreciate your videos.

You may have a fuel pump that is going bad. Get it on a computer to see if there are any codes.

I used the needle-nosed pliers for those stupid clamps on the throttle body down tubes as you did. Do you have high leverage needle nose pliers? And what is the name of the proper pliers for these? I had to go 150% gorilla to get those suckers to snap...WAY harder than I thought they would be. And why not just get two more of the clamps like on the rear? These look like the German way to save 30 secs during manufacturing per motorcycle. I can't imagine why else to use these.

Hi Kirk, I was interested in doing this repair on my bike which is a '99 LT. BMW microfiche says it's no longer offering this breather hose assembly. I'm looking at dealers to see if they have any old stock that I can buy.

My K1200LT Sometimes smokes when I start it and sometimes it doesn't. Last about two minutes when it does smoke and the smoke is white-ish. It doesn't seem to be water vapor, water temp is ok, level seems ok.... I live in the sierr's and climb from 2000 to 8000+ feet and back, 120miles. That is intermittent is odd.
@shamoy10002 жыл бұрын
My 2000 LT has done that a few times since it was new. Sometimes after just after sitting 30 minutes. It seems to load up with gasoline when the engine is restarted after cooling down. Lasts only seconds then clears up. Sometimes when it's been on the side stand for a week or so it smokes for a few minutes when starting up cold. I think some oil seeps past the rings and needs to burn off until the smoke clears up. I change oil every 5000 miles and never had to add any so I'm not concerned.

What he said. Kirk covered this in another video, I think. Has to do with engine configuration in conjunction with being on the side stand, though I have had it happen a bit from the center stand as well. Normal.
