I always try to put myself in the shoes of others no matter what situation I’m looking at. I am 100% aware of the fact that these hairstyles have a rich meaning/ history for your culture. I’m also aware of the fact that little girls would be kicked out of their schools for wearing braids and women/ men attacked endlessly for their natural hair, which is disgusting. I also agree that the people that are using this hairstyle as a trend and not acknowledging where it came from, or the pain that is behind it is wrong. However, the kids that are growing up in this generation we’re not apart of that pain, weather were talking about White, Latino, Indian, etc. My niece is Cuban, her baby hairs go crazy if she doesn’t lay them down. She got told by an African-American girl in her class that she’s not allowed to wear her hair like that, which since she was aware of the history she felt she needed to apologize and she scared to wear it like that again. Prior to me laying them down for the first time I informed her doing this hairstyle is a part of African-American culture and you have to respect and acknowledge it’s not just a trend. I see a lot of women from your culture feel that whether it’s white kids or teenagers doing their hair this way that they’re trying to steal something from your culture by wearing a hairstyle, but from my point of you I think it’s more of seeing the beauty in it. They’re not doing their hair like this to steal from you, these little girls are growing up in a generation where this is what’s popular they don’t have hate in their heart, or have the intention of stealing your culture, they see the beauty in your culture and they want to use inspiration from that. The other day I watched a video on an African-American woman horribly attacking a 13-year-old because she laid her edges and she was white.. she wasn’t just speaking out about her feelings on the matter she went out of her way to attack a child in a very nasty way, this is the hate and division I’m talking about... that was just a kid that’s growing up in a time that this is what’s popular, when she does this hairstyle she doesn’t have hate in her heart or wanting to cause pain to others, she thinks it’s beautiful. I wish that your culture could try to see that the people in this new generation weren’t the people that caused pain!!! They’re the people that are growing up to understanding your culture and even looking up to your culture, that I feel that should be celebrated, not attacked. Anyways this reminds me of when I traveled to India, I was so welcomed into their culture with open arms. I was welcomed into wearing beaded items and celebrating unique fashion. I wasn’t attacked for wearing their cultural items. I was even given a Lace Salwar kameez by an Indian women and was told to bring it home to America with me to show the beauty of their style.. Indians in America have been to attacked with racism as well (not on the same level as African Americans of course), but instead of attacking white people that try to understand their culture and aren’t there to do them harm, they welcome them to learn and to see the beauty in it. I think that’s beautiful and I think we can learn from that.
@Mini-wd7qz2 жыл бұрын
That’s way too much words over braids xd but yea I think it’s stupid that people are bringing slavery and racism into hair and blaming people who wasn’t even alive when it happened is stupid
@Mini-wd7qz2 жыл бұрын
Like, I came across this one person who said it’s racist for a white person to have curly hair or get a tan they sounded so dum
@kaniaholmes2 жыл бұрын
Such an excuse. Just because the generations now we’re apart of that pain doesn’t make it right or fair. Because the generations now that are black they are living that pain and they weren’t apart of it either. There’s just a boat load of excuses in this comment and it’s like you’re saying hey I understand your pain or struggle but that was then this is now, or you’re comparing the struggles of other races to the struggle of African Americans. Not the same thing.

All things Kay....EVERY MAN HAS HIS CROSS TO BEAR. God made that very clear. We ALL deal with persecution, trials and tribulations in different ways. That does not however make it okay to act entitled and operate in the spirit of hate and division towards your fellow man for feeling inspired by something that makes them feel beautiful. No matter what that something is. Humble yourself and operate in a spirit of unity. I'm a white woman planning on doing braids and I've heard quite enough of this unnecessary controversy that contributes nothing to the human race.

@@LenaLove It's more of a cultural thing. I myself have no issue and absolutely adore when other people get braids and hairstyles because I know it is out of admiration and appreciation; however, other people on KZbin do not seem to get that and automatically label it as “cultural appropriation”. Luckily, this kind of stuff only happens on the internet where it's easy to be brave behind a screen, and I hope you don't have to face things as such in real life. 💕👍🏾

Love it! I've got my hair in boxbraids atm and i've got naturally straight and silky hair. Did you lose hair or did braiding ur straight hair damage your scalp/hairline?
@LenaLove5 жыл бұрын
Cyrl Azur - so you will lose hair but it’s bc you haven’t combed your hair since the braids been in. you naturally lose hair on a daily basis, so if it’s just in braids for a week or whatever it’s gonna seem like you have hair loss but it’s not the case. I wouldn’t say it damaged my scalp or hairline but after a few days my head started itching & I got bumps but I may have been allergic to the hair. If you have hairline damage it’s prob cause you put the braids too tight in that area.

Heyy I’m really curious because not very many people answer but how do you do them so there isn’t serious damage or hair loss. N do you not loose a lot of hair because there aren’t very many braids
@LenaLove5 жыл бұрын
Heyyy Lmao - so what a lot of people don’t mention about box braids is: you lose hair everyday normally but since your hair is in braids for so long all of that hair that you would NORMALLY lose is in the braids just built up. you don’t lose your hair bc it’s in the braids & it’s damaged. It’s just a normal thing.

My question is How do you keep your natural hair from sticking out of the braid?
@karlydarkly4 жыл бұрын
U use edge control at the bottom of ur natural hair as ur braiding

How did you have your ends stay in the braid? Bc I did mine and they kept coming out
@LenaLove6 жыл бұрын
Coral Mena you’re supposed to dip your ends in boiling hot water & they won’t unravel.
@yolandapierce42585 жыл бұрын
Your natural hair kept coming out? You can put gel on the hair as you are braiding, and it will keep your ends from poking out.
