I do this technique with afro twists. My hair is short so I rubber band it to my comfort level and use a crochet hook to thread the hair through the base, then begin twisting.

I love your voice over!! I tried this method, but I used a crochet hook after securing the rubberband. Also, the braids have to be thick enough to conceal the rubberband. I love this method for jumbo braids too!
