The next time you want to remove excess solder: Use a torch to lightly soften up the solder and the wipe the solder off with a cloth pipe cleaner. Keep going over it repeatedly until you've removed all the excess solder. This is how it's done in brass musical instrument repair s shops.

That's a good technique if you're skilled and have just a bit of cleanup, but in this instance he had so much clean up that the brass would absorb and hold so much heat he could risk a sliding braise joint and throw everything out of whack. I doubt he has the fine touch with a torch to manage the heat properly to soften up only the bits of solder he wants to... Although, it is a very useful tip to remember for when you need to clean up just a bit of solder! I once tried wrapping steel wool around a soldering iron with wire and scrubbing it away like that! Haha it DID NOT WORK. This technique would've helped a lot!
@MoeBabaloosh
@MoeBabaloosh 4 жыл бұрын
@@DanteYewToob a smaller pencil torch tip could focus the heat, making it easier to clean up only where it's pointed. That would be worth a go as well. I still admire the fact that Matt learned as he went along, picking up crazy XP along the way!

Shogunharvy it is do able but it would be clunky and noisy to use with machined brass key caps and switch tray. You can just forget feather touch low profile scissor switches here. It would defo look the mutts nutts but the practicallity of it would leave something to be desisired. I have a hackintoshed AGP G4 case but use the latest apple keyboard because it is more evolved. I disagree, although more spacing would have definitely made the SSD's run cooler by a very few degrees there is still an air gap between them and I don't see this as an issue, it will be perfectly fine considering the cooling fan a air vents size; the PSU has its own fan, not an issue.
@niter43
@niter43 5 жыл бұрын
Quick local heating to those pipes wouldn't do bad to MB, that's ok. Heat isn't really an issue for SATA SSDs and not like he applied thermal paste between them and PSU, lol. Yep, probably could run 10 degrees hotter due to lack of airflow, which would be whopping (not really) 40C.

Proper rubber feet, and I'd stick a thin layer of acoustic foam on the inside to minimise ringing from the airflow. That said, without spinning hard drives it won't get super noisy regardless. Dust covers over the air-intake too. They catch a ton of dust.

fun piece of info for anyone wanting to use brass in a build but having trouble finding brass of any good length around them or cheap enough, you can use carbon steel and bend it to the desired shape, then heat it up and hit it with a brass wire wheel, it will melt the brass to the surface of the steel and "plate" it with brass, giving you a much easier way to find big enough pieces. I have used this on weird shapes for knife handles before

Most of the dust it sucks in will stick to the CPU heatsink because it's a straight-through design. That's one of the easier parts to clean when the machine is open.
