I realy love this idea! Realy cool what inspiration you can find in real life. This is giving me Frankenstein monster ideas too. Like a tombstone of different shades and names put together. Theor is a lot of story telling that can be done with this. I alredy have an idea of a Frankenstein monster/Lurch type crypt keeper that this would be amazing for

Get closer with the spray paint and LET it dissolve the surface. You can go light or heavy and get different depths of "carving". Let the solvent work for you. Done right it can look like sandblasted letters or deep cast letters. Love the repaired tombstone! One last thing. Marble and granite stones will get "gritty" as they age. Slate tombstones stay very smooth and make for great rubbings. Even after hundreds of years.

I'm so jealous of your computer and your vinyl cutter. I've made about 40 Stones like you make them but everyone has to be hand traced with different stencils sizes or shapes one stencil at a time with a magic marker

I was in the same boat. I just got tired of doing it by hand and grabbed a vinyl cutter on sale. I'll never go back LOL
@vanderhoff66fu
@vanderhoff66fu 6 ай бұрын
@@VanOaksProps I totally agree with you it takes so long to do all the stencils by hand I have to draw a straight line so all the stencils line up across the tombstone on a straight line and I have to space them out by hand sometimes it gets really annoying LOL. Because of that each Tombstone takes me 8 to 10 hours . I work on them a couple hours after work every day I make around 5 to 6 per season. I buy two 4×8 x 2 in thick foam sheets.

These are great videos this is how I do my tombstones instead of the torch I use a heat gun but I have to be careful because if I put it too close and too hot it opens up the letterings, ugh. I use two coats of Drylok gray that usually works very well. A hand paint with full latex paint in every letter can take hours sometimes to do the whole Tombstone but I like it nice and bright so after my coats of weathering it takes off the shine a little bit to finish my tombstones I dry brush the entire Tombstone with white paint really picks up all the edges and the lettering perfectly just got to do the latest dry brush you possibly can in white

Amazing! The puzzlement to me is how you target the precision of the carved lettering with the cowl and leveling acrylic seeming to obscure the cut point? The result looks amazing but we can’t figure out how you see for the precise cuts!!

Hmmmm... paintable caulking? never thought about it, i had only seen or heard people use wood putty, spackling ( for some reason the paint always bubbles when i use it :/ ) and some other glues, i may switch to using caulking now, i did a tombstone ( video coming tomorrow ) where i pressed the Great Stuff' Foam into the cracks and let it dry, i used an exacto knife to carefully cut away most then finish sanding it smooth, i found that works but is far messier, how hard is it to sand caulking? i HATE those seams in the foam, if you dont seal them hard they'll re-open up and show through your paint and man that destroys a good tombstone, i appreciate these videos for tips so much!
@VanOaksProps
@VanOaksProps Жыл бұрын
You can’t sand caulking, but you shouldn’t need to if you’ve applied it smoothly and paint over it.
