DIY Bushcraft Haversack

In this DIY, we make a Canvas Haversack. This is a simple design that anyone can do. If I can do it....anyone can.

Real good Jake. For your mark 2 think about 1. having your sides extend and fasten across the top under the flap to stop gear falling out, and 2. have the strap the same size as the width of the bag and extend down both sides and across the bottom for reinforcement and help the bag keep its shape. Don't worry about zippers or press-studs. Eager to see the next one.

Of all the ones I've seen I like your design the best. I will be following your guides with the addition of top flaps inside of the flap, a few internal pockets to keep knives and saws readily accessible, and my straps will attach to the back of the bag at the corners. This helps the bag pull tight to the body and it lets rain water run down the back of the bag and not near the opening of the flap. I think I will also make the strap and one side of the bag all one long piece. The other side of the bag will have two rings that I can use to adjust the length of the strap.

Nice job. Just a tip for future ref: I always make my straps 4 to 6 layers thick, using the same material you do. No need to use the liner, it won't bunch. Also, I sew the ends onto the back side along the outer edges so the straps hang with a natural twist against my body. The bag I make at least two to three layers for toughness. Waterproof with any of the various recipes for DIY waxed canvas.

Using an old pair of insulated Levi's for my haversack I don't need a very big one plus using the wife's handheld sewing machine

AG Survival it's easier than it looks. If I can do it, you definitely can. I found an old sewing machine cheap on Craigslist. I practiced by sewing a few scraps together to get the hang of it first.
