Blackie , Another Great Video and Outstanding Information , Thanks for sharing your knowledge, I started watching your videos before I had my Spinal Stroke last February 18 ,2021 . I appreciate you reteaching me and knocking off the rust on what I learned back in Boy Scouts in the 1970s . I'm able to walk with my cane for short distance, I did walk 70 yards with out my cane it was shaky but I am getting stronger. I'm planning to come to (LA) Lower Alabama this spring to your gathering . Yes You Are The Master Woodsman and Buschcrafter. Tim L.

that's basically the way I started out carrying gear. it works pretty well especially if you're going with a somewhat minimalist setup. But having the bedroll pulled against your back is suprisingly comfortable and I never felt encumbered like lugging a big backpack might.

thats me as well if i carry a blanket this way i dont seem to notice it..but if i carry it like a yoke from civil war days it always gets in the way for me

I need to try this setup myself. Working on it tonight. What's great about this is if you're also carrying a rifle or shotgun. This setup seems much less cumbersome and out of the way, especially when you want to shoulder the firearm with the gear still on you.

Blackie, for those who don't have detachable straps. Rool blanket around hank of cordage leaving enough out each end to atach to "D" rings or other attach points. Use zipties to secure to strap ( prevents bouncing off shoulder).

There’s several companies that sell longish, multi-pocket pouches that are designed to slide over the front straps on back packs. I think mine are from Wynex through Amazon. Will hold a small fire kit in the typical small rectangular tin boxes in the small pocket and a folding saw fits perfectly in the larger pocket. A Mora can be carried on em too. Very well designed and one would be perfect for the front of your haversack. That’s why I got a set and they are so good that I got a second set for my own haversack setup. Nice idea there. Much better than hanging it from the bottom or strapping to the top. I fold my tarps, blankets and ponchos differently than you do but I’m certain your way of carrying would be no different. Great idea Blackie. 👍

Roll some cordage as Blackie did the bag strap. Then attach to "D" rings (play with it til you find what works for you) and hang it along with the haversack strap. You can then use the bushcraft zip ties to snug it to the strap to keep it from bouncing. Tinkering is key. Keep playing with different ways. You'll learn things you've never seen before in videos.

This falls under “I can’t believe I never thought of that”. How many times have a I seen a rope through a bedroll to carry it - why not use the bag you are carrying anyway? Thanks, Blackie! I typically carry all of my heavy bits in a canteen set and then a haversack with the light stuff. This will work great with the fully detechable strap on my canteen bag.

Doesn't he just! Go and find his video about how to make a Hobo Handline! All these fancy turned wood little Works of Art. And then see how Blackie made his! I have mine already made with all sorts of little goodies in the tin part, all hooked up and ready to go. Then the people where I have my caravan built me a sort of a tent/lean to kitchen with wooden fixtures from the old flooded out Campsite and green net and a fence and sinks and 2 taps and EVERYTHING. And I'm busy ironing out the glitches and doing some work on my caravan. But its THERE. With a choice of six LEGAL places to fish from. I can't WAIT!
