Hi! James and Sarah back with another installment in our uk van build series. This week we’re fitting our van kitchen worktop and tackling the mighty job of our Truma Ultrastore water heater installation - well the first part anyway.
This stage of fitting our DIY Campervan Hot Water System first sees us cutting another hole in the side of our sprinter van conversion. Then building a platform for the Truma hot water heater to sit on. All with some pretty confusing instructions.
Suffice to say it wasn’t an easy process and saw us working late into the night!
The next stage of hooking the Truma Ultrastore Water Heater up to electric and gas will be covered later in our Sprinter van conversion series, after we’ve fitted our LPG system.
Yep, this was by no means the end of the process for our campervan hot water - there’s plenty more Truma Water Heater troubleshooting to go!

Would you bother with all this effort for running hot water? Or would you just boil a kettle?! Interested to hear your opinions on this one!

definately gotta have hot water for sure. lol. i think I would have gone with an electric water heater or one of the smaller units. The hot water heater unit yall installed ive never even heard of.. maybe its a UK thing *shrug*. Still glad you guys took all the water protection steps. Looking forward to more cabinet building for the wardrobe next week!

We did think about electric but would have had to install a way bigger system to accommodate it and the lpg fuel ours runs off is sooooo cheap here. Agree about the size, it’s pretty massive! But we have the space so wasn’t too much of a concern. Also thinking about it the size is probably because it stores 10 litres of hot water, it’s not like an instant boiler, it actually keeps it warm for hours and hours which can be handy sometimes. That’s interesting you’ve never heard of Truma too! It’s one of the main campervan equipment manufacturers here 🤔 See you next week 😀

Nice one again guys, don't think i'll be going the Truma way due to costs thinking of going the BobilVans Diesel heater heat exchanger way. Vans looking well good well done

Thanks 😊 We hadn’t actually heard of bobil vans before we started and only came across them after installing the Truma, but we would definitely have considered one had we known about them. They look like a great little bit of kit and way cheaper as you say! 👍

How did you overcome the seal of the inside of van with the vent as as van walls are not straight?

I had this problem I fitted mine tight on exterior and the heater is on slight angle frame. Works perfect
