Upon unboxing, I was immediately upset at how the rails were very noticeably bent. But I kept going, all tools needed to assemble were included kzbin.infoUgkxqtX4Dxs6aecAZEuz6GY5-d81YecKCshn and I had it set up in about 30 minutes. Honestly I love this thing, make sure to read the measurements and measure your space so you know if it'll work for you. I bought this to put inside my closet, underneath where I hang my clothes and it is absolutely perfect! It is VERY sturdy and all drawers glide easily and mine are stuffed, and they are still flush when closed.

That final result is really beautiful and I appreciate the tip on the shellac paint as primer. My only worry would be removing those stringer rails at the bottom. Because there isn't really a structural panel in the middle and the back isn't structural, they were doing a lot of the work from keeping this model from sagging in the middle. It depends on the pine, but there's a good chance this could sag over time. If it were mine I'd install another leg in the very middle. Just a thought. Again, awesome concept.

Yup, that's why the original has a support leg!

For those of us without paint laying around and starting fresh: The Valspar cabinet and furniture paint is great for this. Leaves no brush marks and drawers don’t stick. It’s a hybrid paint.

I'm surprised you used wood filler and then didn't do anything more than sand! I know you had to fill the shadow line, but it was hard to tell if it looked finished up close? Excellent video!
@jlammetje3 жыл бұрын
It looked really unfinished in the final shots. You could see a color difference in the corners because she only sanded the corners. I’d advice to (at least) sand the entire trim
@Dr.Nagyonfaj3 жыл бұрын
I agree. Though the camera moved across pretty quickly - the filler was very obvious. I was really surprised to see it left so unfinished.
@unicornlap3 жыл бұрын
I almost never comment on videos (at least not in a negative connotation for sure) but I absolutely had to here. I really liked the overall design concept. BUT... leaving wood filler exposed in that manner literally ruined the overall final product. Maybe do a little touch up which might hide this, be more precise with the jointing, use a different filler method/product... OR another option for others considering this design is move all the trim in at least 1/2" to inset it and fill in the same manner, but then paint those the same as the dresser frame while still leaving the rest of the drawer unfinished. I would then move the pulls inside of the weaved material or switch them to a lighter colored pull for the contrast. Regardless, nice idea but less than stellar final product. Although if it's meant to be a temporary piece while renting I suppose it's not the worst it could look.

Megan, I just found you looking for daybed ideas, then this dresser and love your creativity and style. And you did all this with a sweet 2yo helper and ~8 months pregnant-Wow. Thank you for explaining exactly what you did to change out those blocky looking legs. Very nice end result.
@jordancohen23553 жыл бұрын
Hey Megan, I copied exactly what you did on a different piece of furniture and it came out great! I found a different method for filling in the gaps between the edges of the trims and it saved me a few hours of work; instead of rubbing the wood filler with your fingers and then sanding it, I applied it directly from the tube across the diagonal gap and then immediately wiped it from both sides and corners using a wet cloth. You can quickly sand it when it dries if you want to get the smooth feel but it is only recommended :)
@MeganBell3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for that tip!
@katarinahinsey39313 жыл бұрын
I dunno, I've found that using any kind of filler in trim gaps like that looks bad over time as the wood naturally expands and contracts.

Great looking dresser! Just a minor suggestion - After cutting all the drawer frames, I would put together with CA glue (glue and activator). It's quite strong and will allow you to add the wood fill, sand and finish before attaching to the drawer fronts.

Wow, WOW! Such an incredible project! My bedroom furniture, wardrobe, bedside tables and dresser are all in the British Raj style, dark Indian rubber tree wood with pale wicker panels which I loved when I purchased the furniture in around 2007. Now, however, I'm desperate to upcycle so have got some chalk furniture paint in a 'sage green/grey' shade which will compliment the wicker panels. You've truly inspired me with your amazing project, well done.
