Things break.....too funny. My wife and I thought long and hard on our bed setup. We did not want to have to make and then pack up the bedding every night/morning so we considered either your method or a murphy bed. We opted for the murphy as it just seemed easier to build and minimal moving parts. Three years in and it still works perfectly. We leave the bedding on and pull elastic straps over the corners before we fold it up. It extends off the wall about 12" and to the top of the mattress is 22" off the floor when down. We. then put a long narrow fresh water tank under it.

What do you think about putting a limit switch at the top and bottom of the bed track to keep the motor from continuing to push beyond the top and bottom end points? Basically the limit switch would prevent power from each direction depending on the top or bottom position. You could use a rocker switch that holds the position instead of momentary to allow for setting the bed to up position or down position based on the switch position.

Nice. I am actually planning a build very much like your original. But one thing is tripping me up...the awning has a square slot. How do you get the aluminum tube to spin with it? Maybe I'm misunderstanding how it works, but someone else had basically an identical build and I couldn't figure it from their video either.
