Thank you, thank you, thank you! This recipe worked wonders on our long haired shaggy rug! It looks brand new and it's so soft! I've taped the recipe on the inside of the laundry cupboard so it won't go missing. Thanks again 👍🏻

I've never used a carpet cleaner but have just ordered one. After watching about 25 videos of people using these carpet cleaners I have been wondering why they spray the solution down and instantly vacuum it right back up. There aught to be a way to shut off the vacuum and just work it with the brushes a little first, then vacuum and brush it up with rinse water. Yours is the first one that made sense by letting the cleaning solution work for a while before going over it with the machine.

Max Quigley I agree, there should be a function to just work it in without sucking.

As a professional carpet cleaner, I always remember 'CHAT'. Chemistry, Heat, Agitation, Time. That's how you clean like a pro. Also I recommend just getting a gallon of 'Release-it Hydrox' (pro encapsulation detergent). It will cost you less than diy laundry soaps, and you will get better results.

My husband and I bought his grandmother's house and it has cream colored carpet. I also have a Longhair black cat, so you can imagine how well THAT works. I can't wait to try this on the carpet!

I can definitely sympathise. I have to keep all our furniture light so that the white cat fur doesn’t show up. Sadly my black clothes don’t fare so well.

I’m definitely going to give this a whirl on my carpet. I have a creative 3 year old daughter that loves to recreate KZbin video ideas. Most of them include slime, paint and anything else that makes a mess. Then my Maltipoo adds his own touches to the masterpiece. Thanks 😊

Hello 👋🏽 I was looking for a solution and tried yours holy heck this stuff is amazing!!! I just bought a new build and the builder did not give me the option for wood floors so carpet it is (until I can afford to redo them to wood) crazy me also thought it would be a great idea to get a new puppy to complete the new house 🤦🏽‍♀️😆 well with that you now what came next year I had to invest in a carpet cleaner so I’ve used one in the past in previous homes and I don’t like how the carpet stays hard and rough after so I was on the search for a solution and this is amazing!! Worked perfectly and as much as I didn’t want to do it, I got down on my knees for the sniff test and wow was I surprised 😮 no urine smell!! Thank you so muchhhhhh for sharing this! I had to bake the baking soda to make the “magic powder” but it worked so worth the time thank you so much!!!

Awesome! You’ll be surprised how well it works. Just make sure you really go over it well with the plain water to rinse and do a test spot on any rugs or upholstery you haven’t seen me test.

Have you ever tried borax in place of washing soda? The active ingredient in OXY products is essentially a form of peroxide. I’ve seen peroxide suggested in these recipes. Carpet isn’t an issue in my present apartment, but would you mind being the guinea pig on a version which uses borax and hydrogen peroxide as a substitution in your usual recipe? I especially appreciate the tip about rinsing. Thanks!
@NicoleHerrickDIY
@NicoleHerrickDIY 2 жыл бұрын
I haven’t used borax before but I have seen other recipes use it. You would just need to make sure none of the ingredients create any dangerous gasses when combined.
@anikac8380
@anikac8380 2 жыл бұрын
@@NicoleHerrickDIY those two don't. Borax is an age-old laundry additive. It produces a small amount of peroxide in the wash. It also increases cleaning power of detergent, particularly in hard water. And it removes odors.

Hi! I was wondering what percentage of alcohol you use? I am in the US. Thank you!
@NicoleHerrickDIY
@NicoleHerrickDIY 11 ай бұрын
The one i use is 64% alcohol. Any rubbing alcohol should be fine I think. It’s just a small amount to help cleanse and dry the carpet / fabric.

What does the rubbing alcohol do and is it absolutely essential? Also could I use fabric softener instead of washing soda to soften or am I barking up the wrong tree? 😝 great video . I’m in England right in the heart of North Yorkshire
@NicoleHerrickDIY
@NicoleHerrickDIY 3 жыл бұрын
The rubbing alcohol cleanses but it’s main goal is to help the rug or carpet dry out faster. You could leave it out if you want. You definitely need the washing Soda, rather than fabric softener. It might be called something else in the UK. Let me see if I can look it up. It’s super cheap.
@NicoleHerrickDIY
@NicoleHerrickDIY 3 жыл бұрын
Ok washing soda is called Soda Crystals in the uk and you can get it at tesco for 80p. It’s in the laundry aisle usually.

Thanks for the video. One question though: you make 2 passes squirting water and then sucking it out, but then you say 5-10 extra passes, are these the same (water in, sucking out), or are they "dry" passes just sucking out?
@NicoleHerrickDIY
@NicoleHerrickDIY 3 жыл бұрын
Ok so the first 2 passes, are full sprays of water forward and just suction as you come back. Then 5-10 of suction only passes with the second last pass adding a very light spray of water, then 2 more suction only passes. Make sense?

@@NicoleHerrickDIY Why would you add more water after spending all that time sucking it up?
@NicoleHerrickDIY
@NicoleHerrickDIY 3 жыл бұрын
@@WallCakes the back and forth 5-10 times is not really about sucking water out, it’s about working the dirt out with some of the shampoo still in there to break it up. You then need a last flush with clean water so that all of the shampoo is fully out otherwise it will be sticky and attract dirt fast.

I don't have a carpet cleaner 🙃 What would you suggest if not ? Thank you
@NicoleHerrickDIY
@NicoleHerrickDIY 2 жыл бұрын
If it’s just a rug you are doing then spray on the formula and work it in with a clean broom all over the rug. Then let it sit for 10-20 mins. Then you need to rinse it outside with the hose and allow to dry. You can roll the rug and squish out all the water by standing on the roll. If it is room carpet, you will need something to suck all of the water out of the carpet. You can use a wet and dry vacuum. Use the broom as before to work it in then let sit. You can use a milk bottle with a few holes punched in the lid to make a rinsing jug. You have to try not to let the underfloor get too wet so work in small sections, pour water on then suck the water out. Do this at least twice for each section.
