Hey !! This is Jay, I was the firefighter that fell and broke his leg and tore his ACL....that was a reminder for you in case you forgot who I was. Well an update, after 8 months of recovery and painful rehab I have finally returned to work and back on shift. I never thought I could watch so many KZbin videos or be isolated and lonely for so long..(don’t believe all that firefighter brotherhood garbage). So what is up with the Beast or farm truck. I hope all is well and I am looking forward to more diesel videos. Thanks for always answering me, you seem like a great guy with a great lady and incredible hobbies.

As mentioned, chain measurements should be from center of chain (pins) to metal of swingarm. Also pinch bolts should be 20 NM.
@miami1468010 ай бұрын
I read in somewhere 35Nm

Great video Bill! Just something I noticed: You probably know but the chain lube needs to be sprayed by the sprocket side of the chain links, not the outer side. The important lubrication needs to happen where chain links contact the sprocket.

Lucky guy! As a Monster 1100 Evo owner, I love the Ducati single-sided swingarm - it makes chain adjustment so simple. Mind you, I reckon your Streetfighter chain's probably handling twice the HP of my Monster! One thing to note when tightening the pinch bolts is that they should be torqued in a 1-2-1 sequence. So tighten the left one, then the right then re-torque the left one. The same is true for all the side-by-side pinch bolts, for example on the triple-trees or front axle.

Manual says, push DOWN the chain at point of measurement, not up! Furthermore: measure between the center of the chain pins and the plastic section (so ON the guard) So you're to tight.

You have to put your tape measure in middle of the guard not the side or frame. That chain looks to tight,correct me if i am wrong. Great video brother, you definitely have good macanical abilities.

HI bill, just want to say i have a streetfighter myself and the bolts for the back wheel should be @ 20nm. if u keep them @35nm u will probably damage the axle. Im sure because i gott these instructions from my ducati shop.

From memory the original 2018 spec on the V4 Panigale was 35 Nm. This was reduced to 20 Nm after about 6-12 months when Ducati updated via technical note. Less is best since you can and should regularly re-check and tighten but over-tightening aluminium can cause severe damage. Maybe the SF is different, in which case it would be good to announce. Also chain slack is measured to the centre line of the chain, not the bottom edge. Over-tightening can damage bearings. But if the chain is a little loose you will usually notice gear changes and/or throttle-on becomes a little snatchy. So again you simply adjust a little more. I also don't believe there is any measurable difference between having the bike on a rear wheel stand or standing on the ground.

Very informative. I got the gold chain with black links, 520 and sproket kit but went red on the sproket carrier with black nuts. I went with Marchesini magnesium wheels. I really like your "how to" videos and of course the track ones. Keep up the good work.

that was a significant drop in NM from 35 to 20 because of that technical bulletin........I actually had the clicks that it mentioned, and am using about 20 ft lbs (Around 27.5 NM). Anybody else using more than the technical bulletin?

Great Video's! Would you happen to have a list of the torque spec's for the Streetfighter?
@chrishard7616 Жыл бұрын
I think the measurement is meant to be to the centre of the chain link pin. It appears if you try an use an inch as you are suggesting then there is virtually zero slack. Isn’t there a picture in the owners manual showing this?

Very useful video! Thanks Bill! Love your SFV4s. I would add to my "must watch folder" when I buy the Ducati next year (Thinking out loud 🤣). BTW, you may have a good remuneration and wealth, otherwise can't understand how you can afford so many bikes 🤭! Thanks for sharing!!!!

Once you adjusted the V4's chain and get on the bike, the tension becomes less - the chain picks up slack as the suspension changes with your body weight and that is why one must not loosen the chain too much while on the side stand... check it out. Regards.

Hi. I think the silver nuts look cool against the black but I can understand why you would want black. What are those tips for on the bolts, lock wire?

Your chain is new and clean so it probably doesn't matter. Usually you should clean and lube chain before adjusting. For a more used and dirtier chain it can make a difference. Also in my 2021 Streetfighter manual it shows A= 0.87 ÷ 0.94 in (22 ÷ 24 mm). Looks like a division symbol to me. Must be a misprint or translation thing because 22/24 mm would be really tight. 😱😁

the chain and sprocket scare me, I'm used to having a chain slider/guard, to prevent body parts from getting between there in case of an incident.

Hi Bill... I see the torque specs you sent me indicates only 20 NM for the pinch bolts.... Regards!
@x1w3 жыл бұрын
Yep, that's too tight dude.....your transmission hates you. The measurement is 1" from the plastic guard to the center pins of the chain. You should also spin the wheel on the stand to find the tight spot on the chain and adjust it from there.

@EyeofaMadman4 жыл бұрын
its a bit tighter than most cuz of what happened to me..... Another thank you to Ducati North America for a full replacement motor! If that chain comes just a little loose, there is enough room under a hard downshift, to create a wave backwards around the chain and hits the head of the cylinder and blows a hole open in the case from the outside....Yeah, 10 days after purchase....It happened to me....

Nice video. As it's not in the owner's manual, do you mind confirming where the torque settings for the pinch bolts (35 Nm / 25 lbs.ft) came from? They sound about right to me, I'm just interested to know. Thanks.

Just taken delivery of SFV4S here in the UK. Ive ran her for 100 miles, within Ducati guidelines, and my chain does feel loose. 1.5 of an inch with no rider. Did you find this early on? Keep up the great vids, im building something similar on the other side of the pond!

I love your videos but I got to be honest you were doing a lot of things here wrong. You were measuring from wrong spot - then just go AHHH that's fine when you realize you were picking diff spots each time you were measuring. Having the wrong tension is really bad for life of a chain/sprocket and can cost serious money if not done right... Spray was on wrong side of chain, which does matter. Need to be hitting the inside of chain. For torque Its 20Nm, not 35nm which also matters and can cause serious damage to rear axle... etc etc. Not trying to beat you up here, but if you're going to do an "informational" video you need to know what your doing or your basically teaching 13K viewers the wrong way to do basic things. Again, I like most your stuff - but this one was a miss :)

please don't follow this , He has no idea , just regurgitating spurious information . Chain maintenance not a big job but a necessary job to keep chain and sprockets in good shape .
