DIY Chalk Paint Hutch Makeover! 💖

Steps and Products:
1. Smooth out scratches and anything else that may need a good sanding.
3M Garnet Sandpaper, Medium-Grit: amzn.to/2XjZmQ6
2. Fill any indentations with Wood Filler and Sand for a smooth surface.
Elmer's Products, Carpenter's Wood Filler: amzn.to/2IuNvLN
3. Wipe down furniture with Mineral Spirits to help prevent bleeding through your Chalk Paint.
Klean-Strip Odorless Mineral Spirits: amzn.to/2UG7SvY
4. Use 1 to 2 coats of primer. This really helps in preventing bleeding from a wood stain.
Rust-Oleum Corporation Water Base Primer, White: amzn.to/2Ioz0sI
5. Time to paint! Apply 1-3 coats of Chalk Paint depending on desired look.
Rust-Oleum Ultra Matte Interior Chalked Paint, Linen White: amzn.to/2VNLVY9
6. Protect with 2-3 coats of Top Coat
Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Spray Paint, Matte Clear: amzn.to/2Zk4PYG
7. Spray paint door hinges for a nice contrast.
Rust-Oleum Oil Rubbed Bronze Metallic Spray Paint: amzn.to/2KHPX3e

Im getting ready to paint my brown hutch, white. Worry I'll ruin it. Not sure if chalk paint will work it is laminate. Wish I had saved something I could practice on.

Annie Sloan’s chalk paint adheres very nicely to laminate! I have used her paint before and it’s great! She had beautiful colors! I used rust oleum and I’m sure you could use that too as it’s also really good! I’m sure it will come out beautiful! 🤗

I am doing a hutch right now, it’s my first piece I’ve ever chalk painted. I did use the mineral spirits and a primer but it still bled through unfortunately. I have had to do two coats of shellac to seal the bleeding. Thanks for making this video! Yours turned out beautiful!

Painting anything white can be such a pain! The knots in the wood bled through for me but I don’t mind. Eventually the coats of shellac will do the job and it won’t bleed through anymore. I was going to do that but I’m too lazy and have too many projects I’m working on, lol! Hang in there!! I’m sure it’s going to look Beautiful!!

Did the clear top coat make your hutch look yellow after?

No! This is the only top clear coat that I have used that hasn’t turned the white paint yellow! It’s amazing!
