DIY: Cheap (and apparently) Stylish RGB LED Lamp for $15

What is the point of carving out the back of the PVC? LEDs will shine through them quite nicely. Or is that a feature of the Signe lamp I don't see? Thanks! (printing parts now!)

The PVC will let a little light through but not nearly enough to be a 'lamp' of any kind. If you were only going for accent lighting or subtle path lighting the shine-through might be enough.
