As others shared, getting the old fob apart took some real doing, and very very careful not to damage the circuit board. I managed to get the pins out with a brad and small hammer.... your instructions were perfect!

Thank you for your video!! That old Chevy Key fob and the way it is welded/cemented shut was such a pain to take apart! I had to be extra careful as to not damage the little circuit board on the inside or any of the buttons. Other than that, I’m glad I had a watch fix kit, it made removing and replacing the pin/key blade a breeze since it is similar to replacing a chain link on a watch. I did twist the faceplate and backplate two times counterclockwise just to make sure, and it gives a very satisfactory spring outward, almost giving my hand whiplash. Anyhoo, thanks again for the great and detailed explanation!

YAY! Worked for me too. Initially my new fob didn't work after reassembling. I noticed the piece that holds the battery was a little bent so I took it out and replaced it with the same piece from the old fob and VOILA! it worked after that. Just sharing in case someone has the same problem. Thanks for posting!!

Wish I had found your instructions sooner - I struggled getting the old ones apart - and you were the only one who mention twisting counter clockwise to tighten the spring - I was just going to settle with no fold up key. Thank you so much - very well done!

saw a couple other videos addressing this same issue, and most said the same thing about having to switch the key blade. I really didn't want to have to do that if I didn't have to and I was under the impression that it would cost a small fortune to have a new key cut at a dealer as most places that do cut keys can't do this type of key. Guess what, only cost me $30 to have the blank key cut at a dealer (in NJ)

Yep. Worked awesome flip key and all! Was a bit harder because it's a cheap non-OEM shell that will fall to pieces if I drop my keys and had to swap out the blade itself, but besides that, saved a cool 140$. I echo the thank yous.

Question about the part not exactly the same you will have to change the uncut blade with your blade.. So which parts did you use for the new fob? The existing blade and the part you circled with the new part with the hole?

Yes, remove your blade and put it with all the "mecanism" that came from the uncut.

Just finished. It took me about an hour. Hardest part for me was cracking open the OEM fob. It was sealed so tight. Took me awhile to get it open. Also getting the pins in and out were tedious and frustrating for me. Anyways thanks so much for your help. It works perfectly! I saved so much money and I can keep doing this everytime this happens. I have a Chevy Cruze key fob with only 3 buttons on it. Will the 4 button key fob you have work as a replacement?

If the chip fit in it, and the buttons fit, i guess yes, but you can find a 3 buttons online for sure.

Hi, I accidentally ordered a 5 button fob to replace my 4 button fob. Would you know if it could stick work the same?? Or should I just order another 4 button fob lol

It depend of the electronic board, I doubt the layout of the button will be the same, you should order the right one

Yes i did. I think the button I’m using if from the original shell. I lost the other one already for the new one so I may have to buy another one lol

I'm still working on getting the shell open im one step away from getting a hammer update: aright after the hammer i got it opened, there was no way of changing the blades to the new ones i tried hammering the pins out but only one came out, with the new key the pin is stick inside so ill have to maybe get it cut later on. In the meantime i just jammed the old blade into the new key blade the key won't flip but thats okay as long as everything works it'll be fine. second update: everything works and i'm no longer walking around with a ratchet key fob 😊

Yeah.. its a pain in the ass to open the original shell.. seem you had no luck with the blade, maybe try another later, i guess some cheap shell are better than other

I have all those buttons but I bought the Shell with only 2 buttons lock and unlock . my car is keyless and I don't need all those buttons will that matter

Did you ever have a problem with having to like reprogram the key or something? It's my spare key that I used to use all the time but haven't used in several years. When I go to crank my car it turns everything on but won't start the engine but if I use my other key crank it...turn it off...then use the spare it cranks right up...any idea why this may be?

You need to do a newer version for what to do when one's Original key fob was glued together so well that the seams never broke. I followed your lead, but ended up having the cover break off in pieces and eventually had to hacksaw (carefully) in several places in order to free the circuit board. Except for the first seam near the key, the same one you started with, I never got a single seam elsewhere to split open. Chevrolet made that key fob to last!

Not my 2014 VF - solid plastic case. Had to use a stanley knife to cut the plastic then once I got the circut board in the new case didn't work anyway....

@@mitchwhaley4489 Never got it working, don't use holden to replace if possible - they're a rip off. I used a guy James from OBDPLUS in Melbourne, he's a mobile locksmith and his fobs were half the price and haven't failed yet. Goodluck.

Help. Swapped out everything, remote can open/close doors and turn the engine on. But the key won’t start the car, the immobilizer stays on. Won’t let me reprogram it either.

@@metcout I believe so. Had to swap out the blade by removing the pin like in your video. It does not feel loose. I made sure the groove was facing the right direction to allow the pin to slide in.

Never mind. I realize now that when I opened the case and the board came out, that sliver of black contacts at the arm of the board went missing. So it was my mistake. Thanks for responding.

BEWARE!! Aussie VF 2014 commodore fob is solid plastic case. Bought replacement case from remote pro, had to nearly kill myself with stanley knife getting the insides out, then placed in new case now NOTHING WORKS. Car has done only 42,000 k's - both fobs broken. GM SHOULD BE SUED FOR THE DESIGN FAILINGS OF THIS FOB.

Cheap shell I got. The little groves inside the key hole and that little part that the spring sits in would not allow the old blade to fit in the new shell. Aye yai yai!

Chevy does it on purpose so you’re forced to go to their dealership to pay 300 dollars for a replacement slightly modding a aftermarket key fob is significantly cheaper.
