best heat sheild build i found on youtube yet , excellent fab work !

Thanks man, really enjoyed making this one. Hard to balance video length and physical work with these projects. Trying to keep it realistic while keeping it shortish and informative is a challenge.

Wow definitely the best diy heat shield I've seen on KZbin. Very satisfying as well 👌
I can assure you, there is a price for a workshop but you could make all this with some basic tools but you are going to need some space. You just need to be creative and set aside some time.

@CodyYankey3 жыл бұрын
Thanks man. Plastic would for sure but I am not sure how well it would handle the heat around that turbo. On an NA car I would have gone plastic for sure.

Awesome best box cold air than welding thanks KZbin ....
@SamVieiraGuitar4 жыл бұрын
Great, it looks good, but where does it sucks cold air from?
@CodyYankey4 жыл бұрын
Behind the headlight. In my case there are some guards that I removed so air is unrestricted as it passes over the headlamp cover. You can see the guards on the underside of the hood on the passenger side of the car.

So about the COLD air ? Nice heat shield but no cold air flow
@CodyYankey5 жыл бұрын
Nah, it gets good airflow from the headlight shroud. The plastic partitions have been removed so there is no seperation of panels and open gaps. Not really much more you can do outside of a NACA duct or headlight removal.

How do you figure out the height needed so it mates up with the hood?
@CodyYankey5 жыл бұрын
That's the point of using cardboard. Just alot of opening and closing of the hood, trim more, maybe add some. There is a method of using toothpicks or bamboo skewers in the carboard, closing the hood and it pusing the wood/bamboo down to make a negative. Making the video for this job makes this process look quick but you're looking at 8ish hours of labor.

Great build video! Does the heat shield reduce the sound from the aftermarket intake at all?

Thanks. No telling about the sound honestly. The car is a tin can with exhaust that dumps at the rear axle.

Nice job. Great video - pictures are worth a 1000 words, so it was nice to see the time-lapse bits with brief explanations where needed. Just done the same thing on my Eunos 1.6 Turbo. Do you think it make much difference?
@CodyYankey6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, glad you liked the format. I'm not sure of the difference is makes with lap times but I did have to change some after start enrichment settings once the car was hot. The air going in during start is noticeably cooler and caused some really crazy lean conditions a few times.

Vacuum hose !?? Where did u get that rubber?
@CodyYankey3 жыл бұрын
It's just some off the shelf vacuum hose I had lying around. I don't suggest you use it, which is why I left it out. There are much better options out there. Go to a local junk yard and pull some weather stripping from under the hood or door seals. This stuff does not make good contact with the hood in areas and tends to bend upwards at the edges.
@timpache87764 жыл бұрын
Would there be any issue with putting a lid on top instead of mating it with the hood
@CodyYankey4 жыл бұрын
No, that would be awesome. The only issue I could see is building the lid itself. In my case the sides contour the hood. I'm not skilled enough to build a lid in this shape. So I would need to mount the filter lower and make the sides all the same height. Probably could do it but it might require a smaller filter.

any improvement in power?
@CodyYankey6 жыл бұрын
Not really any found power but it does help with the heat soak I was facing after a track session. The car would start to pull power after about 15mins on track in the summer. I haven't had the issues since but temps have dropped a bit as well. I'll have to wait until next summer to really test it.

Arent you Blocking air flow
@CodyYankey4 жыл бұрын
The air under the hood is high pressure since the hood is not vented. So there really isn't a "flow" to speak of under the hood.

this is lame, youtube is literally just pushing audio ads through the video now in a way you can never block it
@adairjanney71093 ай бұрын
why even do this, you will not experience any performance gain, the stock airbox is always the best
@CodyYankey3 ай бұрын
@@adairjanney7109 you are not only incorrect, you are also ignorant. The stock air box is a mass airflow style of air metering and is itself a restriction. This is a turbo car running manifold absolute pressure for reference, eliminating the restriction and giving the shortest path to the turbo inlet. To add, this helps keep the hot engine bay temperature from increasing intake air temperature into the intercooler allowing longer duration of track time before it heatsoakes and pulls timing.

the process
@CodyYankey5 жыл бұрын
Brother, you gotta change that mind set. This took me all of 4 hours, even with recording. The garage is a place of zen and focus. You start out with an idea and at the end you have a (hopefully but, not always) improvement. Not only do I benefit from that but I also learned a great deal during the process. It's liberating.
@georgefaltus4 жыл бұрын
When your mentally and physically sound there is no process that you cant and wont want to tackle that is what life is all about processes in everything we do, so start by doing some deep breathing before anything you do and some physical exercise before hand this will clear your mind and get your blood flowing to the areas you are having issues with its that simple and start eating healthy too all work together for a positive mind set! its that simple .
