Back in 90s in elementary we used chalk to color salt in a paper plate then poured it in jars .

I learned a different way to make coloured sand. With salt and chalk(dust). You scrape the chalk with a sharp object and add it to the salt. Its pretty cool. Btw im from the netherlands :) I love you jamie

you can also put the salt in a cup and take a chalk piece and stir it like a spoon inside the cup. Since I didn't have food coloring and had chalk instead and also that way the project wont take more than 20 minutes

Gurl.com for the display it would be cool to also glue the jar to a small piece of painted carboard then you could glue the rocks onto the carboard but in a pattern that surronds the glass bottle.

You don't need food coloring, you can use chalk too. Just crush some chalk and shake with salt :))

Another option to color your sand is chalk! Just add sand to a cup and hold a piece of chalk and swirl it.I got this idea from AndreasChoice.Just wanted to put it out there☺️
