Le pone aceite para máquina para que el coser se deslice perfecto el pie de maquina porque suele costar trabajo coser con vinipiel o plásticos.

What is the “foil tape” called and can you recommend a substitute for that?

Great project, but I wouldn't put oil on leather. Rather put tape on presser foot or use paper to increase slide. And definitely wouldn't risk sewing through masking tape putting the window on! Sticky needle for sure! Instead use Talon wonder tape that is guaranteed not to gym up the needle. just imagine how many of these you might be able to make if you found a large handbag at a thrift store to make them out of!

Peggy Cleary it’s not leather but PU. Putting oil on it is actually a common practice to help the foot glide over it when sewing.

Is this real or imitation leather? Im guessing the machine oil is to keep the presser foot from sticking to the material. But I wouldn't put oil on real leather. Putting a piece of invisible transparent tape (matte) on the bottom of the presser foot, or using a Teflon foot will have the same effect.
