The contrasting zippers are also great when using the cubes, especially when you just need to open the lid a tiny bit without unzipping the whole thing. I have some by Eagle Creek, the lid has a "regular" zipper and they use a heavy duty one for the compression part. I'll definitely follow this tutorial to make more though!

Hi! Thank you so much! Oh I don't think I have a video about the seam binding. Why don't you cut the ripstop fabric double the width size and fold it twice, like you would do regular binding. This is to protect the raw edges. That may work :)

Hi! Thank you for your comment :) I use 1.5 inches circumference for the corners. So a small bottle cap could work. I usually use a template. Hello, just discovered this video and I really want to try to make my own compression pascking cubes. I have a lot of leftover fabric, mainly cotton, can I use it? I would rather use what I already have instead of buying more fabric. Thank you!

Hi! Yes of course you can use cotton, even canvas. I used ripstop because is also waterproof, but of course! I’ve made them with quilting cotton as well 😊

Hello, I have never altered a pattern, would it be easy to make smaller packing cubes from your tutorial? I am thinking 2 big 2 medium and 2 small maybe? Thank you!

@@lucieboivigny7913 Yes, that is definitely doable. Just pick the medium size, and then make the other ones either 2 inches bigger or smaller. :)

Do you think that adding a second zipper to a pre made normal packing cube would work to make it a compression cube?

Victoria, I'm not sure. I guess you can try. I think you might have to take the pre-made packing cube apart to sew the zipper along both the top and bottom of the zipper panel.

Do you have suggestions for enlarging the cubes? I know you like Sara at Sew Sweetness. She has Vacation Packing Cubes (not compression) in her Minikins Season 2 in 4 sizes. Perhaps that would work?

Terry, you can definitely use Sara's largest packing cube measurements as a reference. The average size for the largest packing cube I've seen (that will fit inside a large luggage) is 14.5" x 14" (finished size), so no more than 5" bigger than what I mention in my video. The zipper panel is what could get a little tricky. Usually I add up all the sides of the top or bottom panels, and subtract 1.5" for the corners and that is the entire zipper panel. Then you also have to subtract the back zipper panel, and that's usually 5" to 10", depending on the size of the packing cube. I hope this helps, I can definitely do a video explaining it more in detail. 😊

did you use the measurements from Sew Sweetness for larger packaging cubes and altered them for the compression cube? I would like to make different sizes of the cubes too but am very insecure about the mesurements. Especially the zippers...

@@pialottazimmermann7446 at the beginning II I used Sew Sweetness cubes as a guide, but they're not the final measurements, and I ended up making my own based on the size of luggage I have. This week I'm working on more packing cubes, so I'm going to record a video and will talk more about measurements. 😊
