Nice job, I'm thinking of doing exactly the same, been quoted crazy prices so going to have a go myself. I'm from Dublin, Ireland 🇮🇪 😀 love your tee shirt, thanks for sharing 👍 take care.

Great Video. Think I will try a light brush top texture for the cut stone look. Since you are going to stain it anyway, you can cover any air bubbles, by wiping some Bondo All-Purpose Putty, over them with your finger.

nice job. I'm putting in a new fireplace soon and wanted to see how this would look and I think I'm going to do it. I do masonry work for a living and pro tip...use an ordinary palm sander on the outside of your form, works almost as well as an expensive vibe tool. Also you can can use an acid stain or an antique kit from brickform to add color down the road. Edit: nevermind I just saw your part 2 that turned out amazing man

I love your hearth. I want to do what you did, but I’m nervous. Actually, I want a hearth for my wood stove to sit on.The wood stove won’t be arriving for a month or two. Tomorrow I will start on this.

I get it, I was super nervous as well. It took me weeks to actually build up the courage to pour it. The only thing I would include if I were going to do it again is to add in a base color to the concrete so that if there were any scratches or chips they wouldn't be noticeable.

Hey thanks for the video. Where did you get the silicone mold? I'm trying to find a similar one.

Thanks for the video. We are about to do the exact same thing. I see your fireplace in the background. What type of stone did you use?
@CountryHobbyist Жыл бұрын
It is a stone veneer from Summit www.summitstoneproducts.com. It uses a lath and mortar to install

Thank you so much!! I'm considering doing the same thing for a DIY fireplace project. Just can't see myself paying over a thousand for a hearth when I can do it myself for less than 500.

The #1 thing I would do different is that I would also add a base color to the concrete in case you get a chip it would be hard to see. I was quoted $1700 for a hearth. Thanks for the comment and I hope you your project turns out great!

@Country Hobbyist yeah yours turned out pretty good, I get your point about adding a base color, thanks for the tip.

Wouldn't you want to lay a piece of chicken wire or use some rebar in that slab? Or maybe some fiberglass pieces....
@CountryHobbyist8 ай бұрын
I agree, that’s why there is an entire scene in the video that I put in a piece of wire mesh.
