Make your own cone thread holder with items around your house in less than a minute!
You can save yourself a bit of money by making your own thread stand.
As long as the thread unwinds straight up and then over your machine before being threaded through, you won’t have any tension problems when using larger cones of thread .

I started using a machine in June. KZbin DIY videos have taught me a lot, and I am so grateful for the instructors. My thread jiggles and wiggles all the time when on the top holder. I will try these methods, until I find the one that's best for me to use. Thank you for this video.

Thank you so much for this video. I recently bought a cheap overlocker spool and then realised that it wasn't going to fit my sewing machine! Doh! I was so disappointed that I had wasted my money but thanks to you I can now use my big spool for sewing projects for years to come! xx

Thank you so much. You're much like me, you prefer to make your own solutions then have to go out and fork out more money. You have a brain that's always trying to solve issues in a low cost manner. I truly appreciate your innovation. My house burned and I lost everything I owned which meant ALL of my sewing stuff, and I don't have to like to go out and buy more things and I purposefully bought 1 white cone and 1 black cone of thread and that was what I was going to use for everything so I could save and not have to have a bunch of things around my house. you've really helped me think outside the box. You are helping people (and the environment!) and that's all that's important in life, really. -Nicholette

Thanks so much Ann. It's tempting to use serger thread as its cheaper, but it's not the same quality as normal sewing thread. It's finer to to keep seams less bulky and won't be as strong and smooth. Please have a look at some of my other tutorials on my channel. Cheers!

Thank you!! And it's awesome you gave so many different alternatives. I had seen a video that showed the mug method, but it did not mention the thread going up through something before running through the machine. I've been doing it this way for a couple of months now, but have been having major tension issues. I am now pretty sure this may be the cause. I'm going to look through my desk to see what I can use that you showed here!
@NotchesSewing
@NotchesSewing 3 жыл бұрын
You are so welcome! You are 100% correct. There is unwanted tension going from the mug up to your machine. The thread may be breaking or your stitching would look tight and gathered. If you have a junk drawer like mine, I’m sure you can find something to raise up your thread and have it run through smoothly. Make sure to subscribe and share as I have other sewing videos and will be posting more when I have time. I have a lot of plastic and wooden thread spools that I had never thrown away because I wonder what can we do with them.
