I'm teared up, with happiness for all of you...I started watching when your containers were delivered! A re markable accomplishment while creating A HOME for your beautiful family... You are humble, resourceful, playful, creative, hardworking, loveable, nature caretakers - carrying all those SNAKES away from the house, your solar n rain collection are just a few - oh and then you find sweet companion for your dog, your collection of PHOTOS of the moon, stars, rain, flowers and sweetness of all, EACHOTHER.... The careful detail shots of you painting, cutting, measuring, moving, celebrating, laughing, hugging, mowing, planting, sitting on the dock, and then those UGH moments, you know them better than I, yet you kept pressing on. God bless all of you and your HOMEMADE HOME with your own hands. Looking forward to your next projects n shares. I'll mention here... you became a very skilled carpenter and your wife's love for you was such a great partner to compliment those aquired skills with many many projects. Your two babies, being your best long term masterpieces, while creating your HOME!! HUGE FAN!!!!! from, Rye, NH

Their ‘stylized’ videos (photography, audio, editing) is very captivating. As someone who admires ‘cinematography’ , these guys are gifted/talented at ‘conveying emotion’ and creating ‘atmosphere/mood’, and ultimately at, story-telling. You should build an underground storm shelter attached to your home, this would also provide much needed storage space and a safe place when tornadoes come through the area.
@Off-Grid
@Off-Grid Жыл бұрын
There is a tornado company not far from them that makes a bolt down shelter that is affordable. We put one in our Off Grid home. They could pour a slab outside then cover it with a roof, which would give them more area for rain water collection and would give them cover while getting to it from the house. Could make it a screened in porch area.

Looking back when this project started, you all had no children, then Beau came. Time flies by and as the containers began to take on the home look, Cam arrived. You all have your fur babies there to keep you all protected, step by step the home takes on the completion of being done. The closet looks so awesome and as I contemplate how to utilize my small 500 sq. ft. cabin and what I can do, by seeing what you all are doing gives me hope. Beau and Cam are so cute and watching them grow up becoming their own person is cool. As you finish one project you all have many more to go. Kenzie you and Spencer compliment each other through your interaction with each other. Kenizie your laughter in contagious, you come across a giggly person and yet you are very smart, then Spencer and his reactions to you give a compatibility beyond what many do not have. You two project warm and down to earth people with creativity and that makes you all likable and worth watching. Blessings to you.

So... the question is when does the outdoor patio with bbq and fire pit begin? I'm pretty sure you will want to entertain family and friends and will be limited in your indoor space. The closet turned out beautifully. In the event that you build something with plywood again, there is a material that comes on a roll ( you iron it onto the edges of the plywood and trim it with a utility knife) that will give it a custom furniture look. Best wishes to all!

Pro Tip: when cutting plywood, the good side goes down because the saw blade is cutting up and tear out occurs as the blade exits the cut. Tape both sides with 3M Painters tape and use a roller to insure the tape is bonded tight. Use a blade with 60 tpi that’s made for plywood. Diablo is a great brand. Your cuts will be smooth!

Seeing Spencer stand in front of the window made me think that it would be a good idea to have shutters you can close in case of bad storms to protect the windows. I built some using small pneumatic actuators that close at the click of a remote. Also, have you considered some sort of storm shelter? You are afterall sitting in a big METAL box. Being able to be somewhere other than that big potentially flying box during a tornado would be a good option. Spencer can just build one. He is becoming quite the creator.

I love how that built in dresser turned out. Kenz you should get those battery operated twinkle lights for around the mirror. I'm going to tell you that you 100% should apply a couple clear satin coats of varnish to the drawers because the oils from your fingers will VERY quickly stain the drawers where you pull them open. We had a really cute plywood bench that held shoes and with a few months the opening to lift the seat to put your shoes in was clealy stained a darker yellow from the oils. We attempted to sand it out before varnishing and it wouldn't come it. We had to paint it white. I had a toy box made a couple years ago for the kids outdoor toys and we quickly varnished it with a satin water base and it looks amazing and it has stood up to the kids pulling it open and yanking their tricycles and rides out and it wipes down easily. Spencer should make a small kid friendly snake proof shed for the kids outdoor toys and that will help keep the house clear from those bigger toys. 😉

Yes, agree about putting a clear coat on that beautiful plywood. It won’t change the look, just protect it. As a furniture restorer, artist, flipper, etc, the first thing I do, even before sanding (bc oils from our skin will melt down into the wood) is clean any piece with a degreaser/TSP. General Finish makes a great clear coat in ultra flat. You’ll never even know it’s there, except that your wood is protected.

Cabinetmaker here: I agree don't stain it, but put a few coats of clear polyurethane on it to keep them looking beautiful for years and then you can wipe them down when they get dirty. 3 coats is best. Put 2 coats on with foam brush let dry completely, then sand lightly with 320 grit sandpaper, then put final coat on. Well done Spencer I love how you show how an "everyman" with a few tools can make something beautiful with some GRIT and determination!

What a great job with the closet! Major kudos! One piece of advice: think about applying some polyurethane to the shelves and drawer fronts. Over time they will accumulate dust and grime. Two coats would do wonders. Also get water based poly to eliminate the smell and quicken drying time. You could easily get two coats on in one day. You two are awesome.
@greenbluemonkey

Yes, I was going to suggest that as well. And also that they can use a matte finish Varathane or other brand. Because that will retain the "unfinished" look of the plywood, yet create a waterproof seal that is washable. And if Spencer wanted to get a very nice finish as well as keeping that look, he could do three coats, and can sand inbetween coats, using a fine grit in the end.
@fiat.freakx19
@fiat.freakx19 Жыл бұрын
Was also going to suggest that as your oil in your hands will darken around the pull holes in a very short time. Great build, Spencer they sell plugs for those angled drill holes if you wanted to finish out the ends... Would love to see the bedroom after the closet was filled up Lol!! Also, would love a water tank update from the rain you've been getting after finding that plugged filling pipe?? Thanks for the content and you'll never finish this property as you will always have projects in the works ie: barn, some kind of carport and whatever else in your wish list or thoughts later...

It looks great but one suggestion is to add a clear coat finish on the new closet. It will protect the wood and keep it from getting dirty and oily from use. And should you decided to stain or paint later the finish will be easy to clean and won't need to be sanded or replaced due to ground in dirt and dust.

I remember for the kitchen you showed the 3D planning tool you used, would it be possible to see the drawings that were made as part of the closet planning process? When I saw the rain I immediately wanted Spencer to go check the water level in the tanks😂

The closet is set-up so well,and looks great.I'd like to suggest this though;put that mirror on a TV mount and use the space behind it for shelves.I'd also cut mirror tile and put them on the drawer faces for a mostly 'full-length' mirror effect.Just grind out the hand grip areas./Great work on the closet,and it's design you 2.Well done.

Their ‘stylized’ videos (photography, audio, editing) is very captivating. As someone who admires ‘cinematography’ , these guys are gifted/talented at ‘conveying emotion’ and creating ‘atmosphere/mood’, and ultimately at, story-telling. This is their life story, and I sure hope they’re as proud of themselves as all of us who admire this channel are of ‘them’ - as creators, builders, engineers, but mostly as sweet, warm, patient, fun & fun-loving , beautiful people, partners and parents. 💜 Blessings!

Your storage issues are fairly easy to solve. Install a container next to your home on concrete pylons and create a double-door hallway access to your existing home. Insulate it and run electricity to it and install a mini-split AC/heater. That will provide a ton of room for you and you could install another bedroom in it. You could also install a bathroom in it also because it is fairly easy to connect your water system and septic system to it. It would be smart to install two containers at the same time so that if you need to, you can expand your living space into the second container.
