Dude! You win the DIY cooler game! I thought I had a few good ideas but you take the cake! Great job. I once made a 'portable stereo' plywood box kind of like your cooler. It had a cheap car stereo, four speakers, two pointing out the side and two in the bottom, a port-hole in the bottom and feet to get it off the ground and a 10 foot 12volt cord. It was heavy and a shin-buster but it was a hit! I love the plywood builds!

Thanks man! Your speaker build sounds cool too; did you post a video of it by any chance? Yep, these types of builds aren't exactly lightweight; the only drawback of my cooler is how heavy it is. But it works like a champ! Glad to hear feedback from other DIY-ers!

That is one cool build. Must weigh quite a bit though. The only thing I would change is a deeper recess in the bottom for even more insulation there since that is a higher loss area. Well done!

How much does it weigh...approximately? I'd like to build something like that for my van.

I just weighed it and it's 36 lbs. So, yeah, a little heavy.

best DIY super cooler I've seen - I like the sanitary factory ice chest as the base and that there is no drain hole. Frozen jugs is great - sure as hell your buddys bitch cause the beer's too cold, uh?

Thanks. Yep, they almost don't believe how long it keeps things cold!

You know with some epoxy or something to seal it all up properly you didn't need the cheap cooler.

What type of glue and caulk did you use on your insulation?
@jonny8522
@jonny8522 7 жыл бұрын
The glue was Elmer's wood glue. The caulk was Dap latex caulk for windows, doors, etc.

would it work without an ice chest to keep one thing cold?

What did the overall build cost you?

I must first say that there were a few items that I already had (such as the cooler, wood glue, silver spray paint, and the bottom panel). That being said, I imagine that the entire build could be done for about $90.
